| Now Obama Promises 100 Years In Iraq! First it was flip-flops NAFTA and the war now Obama has revealed another gaping hole in his high-flown rhetoric! Obamas campaign has now confirmed that he would pursue the same policy as McCain and retain a small number of troops in Iraq to guard the US embassy and to help with fighting terrorists! His committment is open ended which cannot be any different from McCains 100 years statement. Whats your next flipflop Obi? Samantha Power confirms the plan in this interview: | |||||||||||||||||||||

Second of all, if this plan really is what he's now promising, then it's not any different than that of Hillary Clinton's plan. Both would leave a small force in Iraq to protect our huge-ass embassy and carry out special operations perhaps against the rather small number of Al-Qaeda attempting to camp out in Iraq. Not sure I agree with either plan. It will probably do one of two things, really put the fire on the Iraqis to secure their own country as planned, or it will just expose our troops that are there which is most likely. Quote:

One thing I have against the Obama campaign is that they seem to be afraid of defending themselves. They confuse 'dirty politics' with honest defense. Obama has been slow time after time to call Clinton on her lies and smear tactics. I just hope he learns that lesson before he goes up against McCain. | McCain actually explained his 100 years statement. It being more like the South Korea thing. But Obama has stated he wouldn’t even have a base there. So that report of Sam Power is completely contradicting what he said. If the media would get on this Obama will be painted as a flip-flop in no time.Barak Obama: “I do think it is important for us not only to protect our embassy,” he said, “but also to engage in counter-terrorism activities. We’ve seen progress against AQI [Al Qaida in Iraq] ... I think that we should have some strike capability.” (New York Times, November 2, 2007): http://www.gulfnews.com/opinion/columns/region/10196217.html Sam Power was his foreign policy advisor and as Obama is totally ignorant on the subject anything he says is meaningless and changes day to day. What do you think the huge American embassy in the green zone? (Claimed to be the largest Embassy complex in the world)is but a base? How many troops will it take just to guard it let alone to carry out the counter-terror ops he specifies? Last edited by sarasara; 03-10-2008 at 04:59 AM. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Jeremy Paxman is brilliant - I wish there was somebody like him on American TV. I'd love to see him interview Bush, Cheney or one of the inner circle, Paxman can tear any of them apart. He's my role model for chat forum debates. And that Samantha Power is definitely what we call the "thinking man's crumpet". I bet she and Paxman shared a cocktail or two after the show. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| so wait, you mean to tell me that guarding the embassy is the same as staying at war with a country for another hundred years?? Aren't there soldiers at most of our embassy's already anyway? | |||||||||||||||||||||
