What did someone say about "slippery slope"?
Legal experts recommend Canada legalize polygamy
TORONTO -- A new study commissioned by the federal government recommends Canada legalize polygamy and change legislation to help women and children living in plural relationships.
The paper by three law professors at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont., argues a Charter challenge to Section 293 of the Criminal Code banning polygamy might be successful, said Beverley Baines, one of the authors of the report.
"The polygamy prohibition might be held as unconstitutional," she said in an interview Thursday night.

Top court must decide polygamy issue, government told

I'm sorry, that slope is looking slicker and slicker.

that's not a slippery slope

it's a completely different issue

Really?

I disagree. When you remove the "one man and one woman and make it simply up to human will to decide what the a marriage is, then you can end up with decision making that makes a man have sex with a patio furniture.

It is NOT an completely different issue, it IS the issue. Legal depends on interpretation. There's very little interpretation required for one man and one woman. It's pretty standard across the species in its significance. Anything else is [other].

the difference is huge.

There is no legal REASON restrict gender in marriage.

There is, however, a very good legal REASON to restrict the number of applicants - it makes it impossible to distribute benefits equally to all married citizens. It makes it almost impossible to make legal decisions about child custody and support responsibilities.

I don't CARE if one man wants to marry three women (or vice versa) - not from any kind of subjective moral stance - but, it's wrong to create an unequal benefit and responsibility program.

As I said - completely different issue.

Having sex with patio furniture? Well, at least you're staying fresh in your analogies.

But that is discriminatory to those that "love" more than one person. There's no reason why a person can't love more than one.

Normal humans recognize the significance of one man one woman, then you have [other]. "Legal" allows zoophilia, slavery, and abortion.

Nope it's exactly the same issue - whether marriage should be redefined to accommodate dysfunctional minorities.

Surely you support polygamy? You are the one who constantly tries to persduade us that marriage has to "evolve"??

that's true ... which is why I said I have no subjective moral issue with it.

however, I have serious issues with unequal distribution of benefits and responsibilities
