A superb film about one of the most noteworthy evils taking place in the US and other countries that have been subverted by the pharmaceutical industry...The daily drugging of millions of children with powerful psychoactive drugs in order to make them "easier to control."
If you have a child in your life who has been diagnosed as "ADD" or "ADHD" and told he or she must take a drug to control it, make sure you watch this important film. Their life may depend on it. Drugging Kids Please spread this around, its time to wake up!

Level up: 41%, 56 Points needed | | this is a dangerous trend, but it is more widespread than just drugging kids (as if that was not enough). there is an increasing trend in every part of society that where there is a problem, there is a simple solution, often a pill, to fix it without you having to do it. this seems to parrallel an increasing lack of individual accountability in daily life.
the inappropriate drug argument applies to adults too, and increasingly to other parts of life and things for which there are other, better, answers. the rate of antidepressant use in adults has risen hugely, eveyone who has any kind of difficulty in their life can pretty much be assured of being diagnosed with depression and prescribed something. we used to call it life, now we call it depression. a recent (drug company sponsored) study found 50% (!) of people in the community were clinically depressed. this ludicrous finding was slammed as the blatant "disease mongering" it was.
same in children. we used to call them energetic, busy or just a handful, now they are sick. we used to be able to manage the problem with good parenting, discipline (without violence) and appropriate direction, now it is somehow the doctors responsibility to prescribe them into good behaviour without the parents or the child having to take anything on board themselves, other than pills.
this trend is spreading to areas like obesity and smoking. it is not your responsibility to quit or diet, but your doctors responsibility to prescribe you good health.
the pharmaceutical industry has not, i think, produced this trend, but it has certainly encouraged it and profits from it. the trend was there before, and other people (eg lawyers) also profit from it.
i think this is the same trend that encourages people to sue at the drop of a hat and parents to expect the school to raise their children. the prevailing ideology is that nothing is your fault or your responsibility, there is always someone else who is expected to step in and fix it for you, instantly, without fuss or expense, and without you having to actually do anything yourself.
dangerous and pervasive. |

AbleChild: Parents for Label and Drug Free Education consists of a growing number of parents outraged over both the subjective labeling (ADHD, ADD, OCD, ODD) and pervasive drugging of our children. Our organization's goal in creating this website is to provide information to parents regarding the many subjective labels and the risks associated with drug "treatment" that are critical to their ability in making an informed decision.
"Junk Science" pervades our schools and is being misrepresented to parents worldwide as scientific fact!!! Parents need to fight for their right to full informed consent!!! Do not accept solely based on what you are told but question, delve, and more importantly always re-question. Our organizations goal is to provide you with the information that is sadly, being denied to you regarding ADHD, ADD, and the many other subjective labels being placed upon our children.
Information that we provide you consists of what you would need to be given to make an informed or educated decision surrounding your child. This information consists of informing you on or about:
* The subjective nature of ADD and ADHD and what the diagnosis means for you and your child, what it consists of, and how the diagnosis of ADD and ADHD is determined.
* ADD, ADHD "medication" risks
* Real underlying health issues that contribute to children's attention and behavior problems
* Real educational resources and solutions to help your child improve his/her attention and behavior.
* Laws that parents can use to empower them to stand up for their right to JUST SAY NO
* Other Psychiatric Labels which include depression, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and how these labels affect children.
* Psychiatric "medication treatment" risks
* Other informational sites, books, non-drug resources and professionals. Ablechild.org, Parents Group for ADD/ADHD and Ritalin Use Info

Level up: 41%, 56 Points needed | | but it is not this simple. it is nice to think of it in simple terms, that the innocent children and parents are having dangerous drugs forced onto them by unscrupulous doctors, all at the behest of multinational drug companies.
while this happens sometimes, the truth is it is often parents who ASK for the drugs. i have experienced it in my practice frequently. they refuse to consider any other intervention, refuse to reassess their parenting skills or style and demand someone drug their children into submission.
i live and work in australia, and here there is often restrictions on what sort of services or help is available depending on ones diagnosis. if i give a patient a label like ADHD or Autism then someone can give the family some assistance. without a label, the family is on their own. i suspect, knowing what i know of the american health care system, that this phenomena is even more powerful over there. the system wont deal with individuals, it only deals with labels. |

Level up: 7%, 14 Points needed | | Of course, some kids are dealing with mental states for which no amount of proper "parenting" can resolve. I know of a 12-year-old girl who has been dealing with depression, and a few weeks ago made suicide threats that resulted in her being hospitalized for her own safety. She says she is hearing voices that are telling her to kill herself. Her parents were given a prescription for a drug treatment, and the parents plan to fill it. |

i have also seen parents who say their teenage children "talk back" (like thats not expected) or they have a 3 year old who "has to be told everything repeatedly". they ask for drugs to treat what are completely normal kids.
there is no question that psychatric problems are serious and can be life threatening. also no question that drugs can do wonders and be life saving. but these kinds of problems are relatively uncommon compared to life events that are not life threatening, not that serious and not even problems, just part of life. in the 21st century, life events have been redefined in many peoples minds as a medical condition. |

Level up: 42%, 180 Points needed | | Journalist Jessica Marshall wrote for Discovery News 28 May 2008:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exposure to lead during childhood increases the likelihood of being arrested for violent crime — and is linked to decreased volume in regions of the brain associated with judgment and problem solving, according to two new studies. Numerous earlier studies have found relationships between lead exposures and behavioral problems in children, including aggression, antisocial behavior, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and juvenile delinquency. ...Those with higher childhood lead exposure showed decreased volume in parts of the prefrontal cortex associated with judgment, reasoning, mood regulation and some components of attention, said Kim Cecil, a collaborator of Dietrich's, who lead the brain study.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was also reported that lead is "a heavy toxic metal that can damage the brain". It was noted: "We need to think about lead as a very powerful drug, in a way that even at low doses can have a major effect on brain function". CNN — LOU DOBBS TONIGHT — Aired May 28, 2008 - 19:00 ET
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOU DOBBS, HOST: The Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced another recall of communist Chinese products. This time a recall of Little League batting helmets tainted with lead and hundreds of thousands of counterfeit circuit breakers that pose a fire hazard in addition to the fact that they don't work. Both products manufactured in communist China.
Kitty Pilgrim now reports on our government's failure to even consider protecting American consumers from dangerous imports.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
KITTY PILGRIM, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Just in time for the summer Little League season. A recall of 2,300 Rawlings batting helmets made in China, containing toxic levels of lead paint. Rawlings said they tested for lead and are moving as fast as possible to remove the helmets from the market. Last year there were 25 million toys and sporting good recalls because of lead paint and toxic chemicals. And this year the Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled two and a half million children's products this month alone.
DON MAYS, CONSUMERS UNION: The Product Safety Commission which has only about 400 full-time employees doesn't have enough staff to be working the more than 300 ports that we have in this country. So it's impossible to witness all of the stuff coming in and stopping the bad stuff, the counterfeit products, the unsafe products from crossing our border.
PILGRIM: China also shipped counterfeit circuit breakers to an American supplier, Specialty Lamp International (ph). The fake devices are virtually identical to the genuine product but the knockoff pose a fire hazard in homes. The company did not respond to calls.
Bush administration officials are going through the charade of tougher enforcement with few results. The Chinese still have not given the go-ahead for a dozen or so FDA officials that were supposed to be stationed in China and some question what good a dozen inspectors would be with $300 billion worth of food and product imported from China last year.
TOM BUIS, NATIONAL FARMERS UNION: They would have to be superheroes to be able to cover all of the products being shipped into the United States.
PILGRIM: But five months after the Chinese signed two agreements to improve the safety of export of food, feed, drugs and medical devices, the details are still not worked out.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
PILGRIM: AHS Secretary Leavitt says he is optimistic the Chinese government will approve the opening of three FDA offices in China some time soon. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says if recalls continue at the current rate, it will be a 70 percent increase over last year. Lou?
DOBBS: Secretary Leavitt says he's optimistic.
PILGRIM: That's what he said. And it's been an ongoing discussion, but there's no approval...
(CROSSTALK)
DOBBS: Three offices in China...
PILGRIM: In China.
DOBBS: ... for 11 inspectors for $300 billion worth of products.
PILGRIM: The numbers don't quite work, do they?
DOBBS: They don't seem to work maybe just for all of us. I'm sure they work for Washington because they think we're a bunch of idiots. How big a fool do you suppose Secretary Leavitt is to think that we're this stupid?
PILGRIM: He says that the Chinese manufacturers should be held more accountable and he would like them to put the FDA certification, the Chinese government to put the FDA certification on to say they meet FDA standards which is his general approach to the problem.
DOBBS: That's brilliant. That goes along with this administration's request that Wall Street regulate itself. When does George Bush leave office?
PILGRIM: The good news is that there is legislation coming through that may tighten up standards for American manufacturers.
DOBBS: I heard this nonsense before. Thanks for trying to boost my spirits any way. We all appreciate it. The American consumer, you're on your own. We're on our own in this country. This government is completely indifferent to the welfare and people and safety of the consumer. It's disgusting.
Kitty, thank you very much — Kitty Pilgrim.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It appears that Communist China is determined, along with American authorities, to get this toxic material into the bodies of Americans. |
