| DeLay calls it quits WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Rep. Tom DeLay of Texas, the House of Representatives' fallen majority leader, announced on Tuesday the end of a re-election fight he was in jeopardy of losing and said he would soon step down from the U.S. Congress. "It's time for me to go do something else," DeLay told Fox News. Yeah it is, prison time!---intangible child DeLay insisted that he did not feel defeated in the face of legal battles and blamed politics for his woes, which have included an indictment in Texas on campaign finance charges and a Capitol Hill lobbying scandal that so far has ensnared two of his former aides. The shock announcement came 12 years after DeLay helped Republicans capture control of the House. Democrats have sought to make DeLay and Republican ethical scandals an issue as they try to recapture the chamber this year in November elections. "I feel kind of excited, frankly," DeLay said. "I'm looking forward to being liberated outside the House, doing whatever I can to unify the conservative cause." DeLay said he was acting to ensure Republicans held on to his seat. First elected in 1984, DeLay was nicknamed "The Hammer" for his hardball political tactics. He was rebuked by the House ethics committee on three separate matters in 2004 and stepped down as House majority leader in September after being indicted. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...040400723.html The wheels are coming off of the conservative wagon. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| The wheels are not coming off the conservative wagon despite what you might contend. Delay stepping down is a smart move and a noble one, by someone who is more concerned with the success of his ideals than of himself. I would be more afraid of Delay outside of the Congress, as an individual citizen, he does not have to abide by the rules of conduct towards other members of the Congress. It is also interesting to note that one of Delays last acts as a member of the House will be to report Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney to the House's Ethic committee. It seems as Congresswoman McKinney has had yet another run in with Capitol Police, this time actually striking one of the officers. But of course, McKinney blames this on racism. dmk Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. | A picture can be worth a thousand words, yet all your pictures reveal are worn out old wheels. The conservative voice in this country is far from worn out. The current debate over immigration proves this. The House Bill is by far the most conservative, the Senate bill, which so many are applauding now seems destined for major overhauls, thanks to the filibuster expected by conservatives. It will most likely not pass the House, meaning that it will die. It seems are wheels not only have not fallen, but seem to be gripping the road even harder. Time will only tell..... dmk Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. | Immigration is being used as a distraction to take Americans focus off the fact that, the Republicans have tried to shred the Constitution (unpatriotic acts), blatantly lied (treason) to the American people about WMDs, Yellow Cake, 500 tons of chemical and biological weapons possessed by Saddam! As conscious members of Western civilization, we must work against the scourges of mankind, against fascism and any similar system of totalitarianism. Offer passive resistance-wherever you may be, forestall the spread of this administration before it’s too late, before they start attacking other countries under false pretences, before the world is reduced to rubble, and Our Nation’s last young women and men have given their blood on some foreign battle field for the hubris sub-human regime that has taken over the U.S. And we must never let anyone take our government over again! Bush and Cheney on 911 interviewed behind closed doors, refused to take an oath, refused to allow tape recordings and ensured no transcript be kept but they tell us (citizens) they can spy on who ever they choose.Tell Congress to do their job as they pledged to the American people and God to do! Impeach and Indict this administration for TREASON! Remember any PEOPLE are responsible for the regime they are willing to put up with! http://www.militarycity.com/valor/honor.html http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/ http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/ http://www.bringthemhomenow.org/ http://www.impeachbush.org/site/PageServer Last edited by intangible child; 04-05-2006 at 09:22 AM. | |||||||||||||||||||||
