American Uniforms

Here is an interesting point to ponder for you. The U.S. Army is switching to it's new 'Army Combat Uniform', the ACUs are intended to replace the old 'Battle Dress Uniform'. Long gone will be the days of soldiers wearing the old Woodland Camoflage. On A side note, as someone who currently wears the ACUs daily, I can tell you that it is a ridiculous and poorly designed uniform. But here is what is interesting, and why I am posting this in the History thread...

The Army, is deployed in Afghanistan, wearing a Uniform that looks very much like the uniform the Soviets wore when they invaded this country! Someone is not paying attention to history. This strikes me as not very culturally sensitive...

What do you think?

For pictures of me in my ACUs check out http://www.armysailor.com or for generic pictures do a google image search.

Then watch 'Red Dawn'.

That is really interesting, and no, not very culturally sensitive.

Great new journal entries by the way! Great photos!

The new uniforms look good on paper but it all depends on how the soldiers like you see them so you guys should get the say, and they do look a lot like the soviet uniforms. By the way, what rank are you. If you can say.

Historically, the Soviet Union thought that the United States was planning something in Afghanistan and invaded because they were worried about 'terrorism'... Sound familiar? At any rate, it became their Vietnam, but worse.

Of course, America didn't even care about Afganistan until the Soviets invaded. They were still pursuing the policy of "anything the Soviets do must be worth pursuing" so they started funding the Mujahadeen and sending in stingers.
