Living on minimum wage
I just caught a great Oprah show today about living on the minimum wage.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

I wish I could watch the video but my school connection sucks right now.

I wouldn't be able to live on minimum wage if I had to take care of myself or the family. Which parts of the country are people making just minimum wage??

At the age of 14, I got a job at McDonalds and I was making more than the minimum wage?

I live in florida were you absolutly cant live on minimum wage. The cost for a one room apartment with no utilities is upwards of $600. I lived in ohio before were you could get a two room apartment for $500 with all utilities.

Was Oprah's show based on thousands living on minimum wage, or what it would be like living on minimum wage?

It had the "supersize me" guy as a guest. He and his wife lived off of minimum wage for 30 days and then they showed many real life people trying to make it on minimum wage.

They especially touched on the misconception people have in this country that minimum wage earners are just high school kids and such. This is false... the majority of minimum wage earners are normal adults trying to make a living, often with children.

This whole "minimum wage" debate is pure BS.

Almost NOBODY is paying minimum wage.

We have a "manufactured home" company where I live that is begging people to come to work - starting wage of $12 per hour (plus benefits after 30 days), and they can't get people to work. Local packing plant is hiring for all shifts - starting at over $10 per hour - and can't keep the third shift going. Neither job has ANY educational requirements.

The average teacher SALARY (not with benefits, but base salary) is just under $50,000 per year - and that's for 9 months' work. With Masters Degree, it's higher.

The main problems are, that in America...
1. Welfare & MA make it too profitable NOT to work.
2. You CANNOT create make-believe profits that force companies to pay more than they can afford.
3. People think they deserve $100,000 per year for entry-level type work.

You obviously don't live in a city or a factory town, no offence intended.

In Buffalo, our economy has collapsed since Bethlehem Steel moved to Mexico. Unskilled workers are basically out of luck, unless they intend to go into the service industry. Our population is hemmhoraging becuase there aren't profitable jobs for people. In the inner city, many people work two minimum wage jobs or more.

These are exactly the types of misconceptions the show addressed.

EVERYTHING I posted is ABSOLUTE FACT. No misconceptions here - except in your own little delusional bubble.

That you cannot handle the truth is an indictment on YOU, not on the TRUTH. Perhaps if you pulled your head out of the sand, and came up for air, you could see the truth.
