| Should Barry Bonds records count? Barry Bonds and steroids--it seems the two have been linked for years. But yesterday an explosive excerpt from the book “Game of Shadows” on the Sports Illustrated website provided some pretty strong evidence that Barry Bonds has knowingly taken steroids since 1999. The real question is not whether Barry Bonds will be admitted to the Hall of Fame. (He probably will—despite these new allegations.) But assuming that Bonds is guilty should his amazing career records—he is currently third on the all-time home run list—be amended or even removed? Should there be an asterix next to Bonds’ records as well as other players of the ‘steroid’ era? Or without conclusive evidence should these records remain intact and unblemished? http://blogs.active.com/eteamz/2006/...-bonds-be.html As I leave you with restless liars and dealers on the take | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Well, Mcguire and Bonds should have thought about that before using anabolic steroids. Babe Ruth and other homerun hitters of the past did not have these enhancing drugs to make them superhuman (like Bonds and Mcguire). I feel their respective records (those like Bonds and Mcguire) should be placed in another category. | In my personal record book, Roger Maris holds the single season home run record and Hank Aaron holds the lifetime home run record. McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds are cheaters. In my record book, cheaters don't wiin and don't deserve a place in history. | |||||||||||||||||||||

As I write this post, Bonds is now 10 home runs away from breaking Aaron's record. I am pretty sure he will. Do I think these records should count? Absolutely. Why? because it has not been proven that Bonds has done anything wrong. "Pretty strong" is not proof in and of itself. When and if this is proven; then he can be deleted outright. If this evidence is so good, let's try Bonds right now, and solve the issue! As of now; this has not yet happened. Next, if you are going to ask me about Pete Rose and the lifetime ban; I will tell you that I agree with the decision. Why? Because what he did tainted baseball as a whole and not just himself personally. Betting slips were submitted to the Comissioner that showed not only that Rose bet on baseball, but bet on his own team as well. As manager of the Cincinatti Reds at the time; he had influence on the outcome of many of these games. How many do you think were actually affected? We'll never know. Even worse, Rose seems to change his story every five years or so, hoping that the ban will be lifted. Do we even know what the true story is? Now let's really start an inferno. How about O.J. Simpson? What about him and any records he may still hold? (I'm not aware of any exact ones now; but this very question was bandied about during his trial- I'm sure many, if not all, of you remember this. I said then that the two situations are different? Why? Becase Whatever Simpson did (or was accused of and found not guilty) was long after his playing days. He was not a coach or player and therefore affected the outcome of no games-that's why.Any records are in no way now suspect. Don't get me wrong, though. I grew up watching Pete Rose. On my little league baseball team, kids emulated "Charley Hustle" by running to first base-on a walk! Allof these instances must be treated individually. I am glad the new commissioner for the NFL has started his new policy regarding player behavior off with a strong show. The other sports must take heed of this example. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| I couldnt care if Bond's home runs stand or not. Its just a stupid number...wow he can muscle a ball out of the ball park. SO WHAT! Him breaking the all-time home run record doesnt make him any better then Hank Arron. Hank was and still is a far better ball player overall then Bonds will ever be, and that is what counts. | Yes, but you still have to give the man his due. When Aaron broke Ruth's record, at the time this record was considered one that would never be touched-ever. Now; that record is going to be broken. I'm not going to comment on what people view Barry Bonds as; or whether they like him or not- and for whatever reason. I will just say that over the last 8 to 10 years, Bonds has been probably the most feared hitter in all baseball. Why else has he been intentionally walked so much? | |||||||||||||||||||||
