I knew this was going to make the board and I couldn't resist saying "I told you so".

Or the analogy straight from the media hype - "Sarah Palin likens herself to a Pit Bull - does that mean she's vicious and dangerous and ought to be banned?"

Just call it yet another in a long list of "WTF were you thinking???" items...
That being said, it's interesting the way Obama's quote is being pulled out of context by some in the media. The full context:

Quote:
“John McCain says he’s about change, too, and so I guess his whole angle is, ‘Watch out George Bush.’ Except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics … That’s not change. That’s just calling something the same thing, something different,” Obama said.

“But you know … you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. You know, you can … wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it’s still going to stink after eight years.”

McCain Camp Accuses Obama of Comparing Palin to a Pig - America’s Election HQ
Not to mention that it's pretty damned hypocritical of the Republicans to whine about this when McCain himself used the exact same phrase last year:

Quote:
Mr. McCain also criticized the Democratic plans, but his comments were more in passing and were far less barbed.

But when asked about Mrs. Clinton his speech, he said her proposal was “eerily” similar to the plan she came up with in 1993, when she headed a health care reorganization effort during her husband’s administration. “I think they put some lipstick on a pig,” he said, “but it’s still a pig.”

So tell me - why is that not an attack on Clinton?

It couldn't be that the Republicans intentionally let the "pit bull/hockey mom" comment stay in Sarah's speech because they knew the Democrats would pick up on it and then the Republicans could cry about how mean those Democrats were... could it? Naw, they couldn't possibly have that low of an opinion of the American public, to believe that the public would fall for something that dishonest... could they?

I can't wait till this election cycle is over. This is just getting too ridiculous.

Lyndon Larouche ran for president in the 1980's. He was worse than Palin.

Still, for now, we have a three-ring circus to tend with: the two camps and the media.

It is funny what the comment said about the pig. That's like if it quacks like a duck, and so on.

This is what Obama said:

Quote:
Let's just list this for a second. John McCain says he's about change, too. Except -- and so I guess his whole angle is, "Watch out, George Bush, except for economic policy, health-care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl Rove-style politics. We're really gonna shake things up in Washington." That's not change. That's just calling some -- the same thing, something different. But you know, you can -- you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig.
How the hell did they get sexism out of this?

John McCain used the same line when referring to Hillary Clinton's health care plan, nobody was crying about sexism then.

Are hockey mums really like pit bulls?

Next time we have to dig a coal mine or build a skyscraper or invade a country let's see how many hockey mums are helping out.

Until then I think Sarah was just pandering to the girlies.

I feel certain that this is just more manufactured distraction from the issues, like the flag pin thing, etc., etc.

I'm also fairly certain there was no recognized voter demographic called hockey moms, until they invented it. People naturally gravitate toward people who are similar to them. But no one is similar to Sarah Palin. So they made up a "group" for her.

I think it's sad the way election campaigns degenerate into this kind of juvenile mud-slinging.

And we know whoever wins nothing much is going to change.

But it's a shame that with so many hugely talented people in America the voters end up with such a dismal choice.
