Democrats used the report to accuse President Bush's administration of being too close to the oil industry.
Maybe now, nearly 8 years too late, people will get the message regarding how the oil industry has been operating out of the White House.

Why would the Republicans EVER make a serious move toward other sources of energy? Especially if the solar, wind, and hydrogen guys aren't offering them sex and drugs, on top of obscene amounts of cash.

So when the Republican are ferreting out crooks left over from the "Know your blow" administration let's blame it all on them darn Replicans.

The Demoncrats idea for alternate fuel. "Let's put all that money towards Biofuel" and "We can use the nations natural resources to double dip the American coffiers by getting alternative fuel credits on one end and farm credits on the other end".

I have not heard any democrats reject this Bio-fuel fiasco yet. I have heard Mc Cain say it's a no go on Bio-fuel that uses public money to subsidize making it and the subsidies to grow a fuel source we would normally be using for food. Yup that's smart, not!

Dirk Kempthorne was confirmed as the 49th Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior on May 26, 2006

He has only been there two years. Troubles were initailly discovered in the department in early 2006.

So where did the suspect employees come onboard in this lastest fiasco?

"The highest-ranking official criticized in the reports is Lucy Q. Denett, the former associate director of minerals revenue management, who retired earlier this year as the inquiry was progressing."

Retiring means she's probably been there awhile.

"In one of the new reports, investigators concluded that Ms. Denett worked with two aides to steer a lucrative consulting contract to one of the aides after he retired, violating competitive procurement rules.
Two other reports focus on “a culture of substance abuse and promiscuity” in the service’s royalty-in-kind program. That part of the agency collects about $4 billion a year in oil and gas rather than cash royalties.
Based in suburban Denver and modeled to operate like a private sector energy company, the decade-old royalty-in-kind program sells oil and gas on the open market. Its employees are subject to government ethics rules, such as restrictions on taking gifts from people and companies with whom they conduct official business."

A "decade" old program? Been there awhile hasn't it.

"In late 2002, when he was about to retire, Mr. Mayberry drafted a “statement of work” for a consulting contract to perform essentially identical functions to his own. He then retired, started a company, and in June 2003 won the contract with the help of Ms. Denett and Milton Dial, another friend at the agency".

"2002" another retiree that had been there awhile. So it must be the current White House Administrations fault, not.

The investigation appears to have been prompted by an internal whistle-blower's report in 2006, and concerns activity from 2002 to 2006 by the department responsible for selling the oil and gas the government collects as rent from companies drilling on federal lands.

Hmmmm, let's see, what corrupt morally bankrupt president was in office between 2002-2006?
