ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Alaska lawmakers voted Friday to subpoena Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, several aides and phone records in their investigation into Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner, setting up what one senator called a "branch-versus-branch smackdown."
Gov. Sarah Palin is fighting allegations she improperly tried to force the firing of her former brother-in-law.

Gov. Sarah Palin is fighting allegations she improperly tried to force the firing of her former brother-in-law.

Todd Palin has been a "principal critic" of his wife's ex-brother-in-law, state Trooper Mike Wooten, and had "many contacts" with Department of Public Safety officials about his status, said Steve Branchflower, the former prosecutor hired by the state Legislature to investigate the firing.

Sarah Palin, now the Republican nominee for vice president, is battling allegations that she and her advisers pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire Wooten and that Monegan was terminated when he refused.

Let's see the GOP spinmeisters talk their way out of this one.

Who vetted Palin before McCain chose her?

Nah, I think the State Officer should have been fired right away for using a State issued taser on a child. Regardless who that child's mother was. Law enforcement officers, judges, politicians, etc... are not above the law yet they often get away with an array of unlawful activity.

If she says she fired the director over budget issues I must believe her unless it is proved otherwise. I'd about bet she can provide the specifics of her choice on why she chose to do so.

So do Governors

When he was interviewed on CNN the trooper said his son asked to be tasered just to experience what it was like, so it didn't happen in anger.

Interesting how you automatically side with the woman, but isn't that sexist??

I would tell the man he is suposed to be the adult. What kind of idiot would taser a child even if he asked?

Maybe a bit more from personal experience on this end. Call it sexist if you like.

I agree. I'm not defending him on that just saying what he said.

It still doesn't justify the Governor being involved, other than for selfish personal reasons
