By Amy Fagan
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
July 26, 2006
Republicans last night secured a long-sought pro-life victory as the Senate approved a bill that would protect parents' right to be involved in their pregnant teen's abortion decision.
"I believe this is a significant pro-parent, pro-child, pro-life piece of legislation," Sen. Sam Brownback, Kansas Republican, said of the bill, which would make it a crime to avoid a state's parental-notification or -consent law by taking a minor to another state to obtain an abortion.
The measure passed, 65-34. Fourteen Democrats voted in favor of the measure, while four Republicans voted against it.
The House passed a similar measure last year, so the legislation now goes to final House-Senate negotiations. http://tinyurl.com/pyrkc |

I don't really see why the article refers to it as "pro-life", when it's more a "parental consent" issue that involves the PARENTs being informed. Not necessarily making anything more "pro-life" at all.
To me, it's more an issue of parents being notified / involved in ANY surgery for a minor.
And you'll note the article states 14 democrats voted in favor of the measure.

Level up: 21%, 11 Points needed | | I really don't care either way, but if there are any precocious types out there, they can figure out how to get around it. Check out the drug/medicine cytotec.....fascinating..... But then I was always a stinker who figured out ways to get things done....legal or not..... People actually came to me to pull sh*t.....and I helped them if it didn't hurt anyone..... (though some of you won't agree that it did not hurt anyone)..... |

Level up: 17%, 22 Points needed | | I disagree.
Ever wondered why teenagers rarely take their parents along for support before an abortion? They don't want their parents to know, and likely for good reason.
It concerns me that parents may prevent their daughter from getting an abortion because they disagree with her decision.
Perhaps her parents are religious, and could, quite possibly, disown or condemn their daughter for aborting.
For these reasons, I do not believe that parents have a right to know their teenage daughter intends to abort a pregnancy. |
