| Legalizing marijuana is an easy argument in my opinion. It kills less people than what is legal (alcohol and tobacco). It is a completely naturally occurring plant needing no interaction from humans to be produced (although like a lot of other plants human attention helps). Studies show it doesn't lead to harder drugs or loss of intelligence (just the loss of potato chips). Using marijuana makes users calm, happy, and peaceful (and susceptible to bad jokes). You won't rob someone for your next toke, you won't lose your mind and become violent, you won't run over little girls on bikes, you won't shoot your friend by mistake, and you won't end up on your friend's couch for the rest of your life (unless you let yourself). All that aside… economic experts agree that ending the prohibition of marijuana would generate about 14 billion a year in revenue gained from taxing and money saved in our legal system. | I see no reason why alcohol and tobacco cigarettes are legal, but marijuana is not. Any argument applied against "marijuana" can be applied to demonstrate why tobacco and alcohol should be illegal. The main difference is that the tobacco and alcohol industries have their base and lobbyists fully in place. Marijuana does not.
