Stem Cell Research
This is a poll of those who consider themselves Christians on this site to voice their opposition or support of/to stem cell research.

Please explain which kind of stem cell research you support or oppose (embryonic stem cell research or non-embryonic stem cell research), and whether or not you object to federal funding of this research.

I guess I should give my opinion. I oppose any form of federal funding for stem cell research because the government should be looking for less ways to spend money rather than more. However, I do support private funding for non-embryonic stem cell research because it appears to have promising results.

Non-embryonic stem cell products could enter*market by 2008* - Aug. 9, 2006
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Embryonic stem cells might hold the secrets to curing paralysis and brain damage, but they've also garnered plenty of controversy with the anti-abortion lobby because they're harvested from embryos.

However, work using adult stem cells - which are donated by grown men and women - is not only free of such controversy, it's actually much closer to getting effective products on the market.

The adult stem cell research at several biotech outfits in particular - Osiris, Cytori, Aastrom - is worth keeping an eye on according to analysts.

"From a Wall Street perspective, adult stem cells are a much better investment," said Stephen Dunn of Dawson James Securities. "These are the guys who are going to be in the news in 2007 and 2008."

Why is your poll just for Christians?

I believe that we should study embryonic stem cells. We do not know enough about them, and to disallow federal funding for them removes the standards federal funding requires. I'm hopeful that other species are being studied even as we debate.

I support Federal Funding for Stem Cell Research if the cures that come from it are given to the American people free of charge. Instead of just more profits for the FDA cartel.

If you want something done well, leave it to the professionals in the field and keep government out of it. They can get funding. Funding isn't the problem. Keep the government out of it. Democrats want government to run everything and all it does is muck it up. Let free enterprise handle it.

I am for stem cell research, but not government funding it. I am against using embryos.

Im for stem cell research and my reasoning is if it can help save a life than do it. To me it doesn't matter what kinds of stem cells used as long as they are usable. So many desieses like parkisons and disabilities like what Super man had( cant remember his name) could be possibly cured through stem cells.

Yes. Because we can all tell from Katrina and Iraq how well things go when Republicans run things...

What about IVF embryos?

Do you oppose that too?

Are you against standards for research? Proof of theory?

Any treatment that uses blood, tissue, cells, and/or tissue-based products is regulated by the FDA, likely including clinical trials of these. Hmm.. the FDA likely was set up under a Democratic bill... something to look up...

That is all you can when you can't respond is to insult. Every time you do that it cements your stupity better than I ever could.

Yes. That involves a human embryo.

You not knowing what you're talking about is not an insult.
I was going to leave it at that, but then you pressed the issue. Sobe it.

What do you know about "funding" and "stem cell research"?

So it's not JUST abortion that you're concerned with, but any "embryo"...

Do you realize that if the extra IVF resources are not adopted (which the vast majority of are not), and the extra IVF resources are not used for research, then the extra IVF resources go in the trash?
So we're basically dealing with a situation of trashing a perfectly viable medical research opportunity, based on your personal hang-ups.
