| While I don't think America needs a single payer system you could just as easily show thousands of thousands of Americans who cannot afford health insurance at all who get screwed with medical bills when something serious happens. In Canada EVERYONE is covered and a few have troubles within the system. In America MILLIONS don't have any coverage at all. We could keep the same outstanding medical service we currently have in America and just change the way payment occurs. Instead of you paying $100 to the insurance company every month you get charged a $30 tax every month towards universal health care. When you choose the doctor of your choice they get paid from that central purse instead of from an insurance company. $30 a month = $360 a year per person There are about $130 million employeed in America $46,800,000,000 Is $46 billion dollars a year enough to cover every American?? Seems reasonable but I don't know. Not everyone needs care and attention all the time. But this is the principle behind everyone being covered. I think it is a basic human right that we should make available to everyone. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- "There is no such thing as laziness. | hevusa: You said " In Canada EVERYONE is covered and a few have troubles within the system" I would not describe the case of Lindsay McCreith as trouble. He would be dead if he couldn't have come to America to receive timely care. Did you view the video? I doubt it. I doubt very seriously the figures of cost you cite. How about a little proof. As to health care being a right, you sound like a "womb to the tomb" liberal that wants all risks of life taken over by government. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Canada has a little over 3 million people. The United States has over 300 million people. What works POORLY in a small country has no guarantee of working in a large country. In fact, there are about 100 reasons why it WON'T work well. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| 30 to 40 million Americans don't have health insurance. That is a bigger threat to health than a few oddball cases in Canada (where everyone is covered). People's health is not something companies should be getting rich off of. It is something that should be a low cost or free to all citizens. This is certainly something discerning Americans can succeed in creating and is long overdue. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- "There is no such thing as laziness. More people only adds MORE money to the collective purse. This is actually a huge asset that will bring DOWN costs for individuals. Not everyone needs care all the time so we should be able to create a pretty nice surplus in the budget. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- "There is no such thing as laziness. Yeah, 10-15% of all Americans have NO health insurance? Why not tell the truth? 10-15% of all Americans don't have PRIVATE health insurance. But most of them are on welfare & government assistance. Check out the numbers before you post the hype. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

You are like a road bump to a better America man. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 15.9% of Americans did not have health insurance, medicare, or medicaid. That is about 45 million people. Disgusting. http://www.census.gov/prod/2006pubs/p60-231.pdf --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- "There is no such thing as laziness. Laziness is only lack of incentive." In addition, ANY person can walk into ANY hospital and that hospital is, by law, required to provide medical care - regardless of insurance of proof of being able to pay. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Are you really so pompous that you are refuting the U.S. Census Bureau's findings? Is God giving you this information? Sure, anyone can walk into a hospital and be hit with a $500 bill. Doesn't mean they will be able to pay for it. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- "There is no such thing as laziness. Laziness is only lack of incentive."
