China's increasing military might
With a population of 1.3 billion, China has enormous economic potential. As the country becomes wealthier, will its communist ideology pose a significant threat to the U.S.?

http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...50719china.pdf

Also, what are we to make of the recent joint exercise between China and Russia, euphemistically dubbed "Peace Mission 2005"?

http://www.worldpress.org/Asia/2138.cfm
http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/20...nt_3453262.htm

I'm guessing that the U.S. will either reconsider its defense ties with Taiwan, or try to take a more tough stance with China on trade issues and human rights.

Notice the FT article in the worldpress link. "If these war games were really about peacekeeping, they would not require the mock amphibious assaults, attack submarines and Russian long-range strategic bombers that military analysts say are involved. …”

I'd like to see how the attack submarines will help with peace-keeping in Afghanistan, Bosnia, the DRC, etc.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

I wonder if the so-called golden triangle will become a reality. Imagine that, economic and military cooperation among three countries (China, India, Russia) whose total population would be about 2,529,998,509. That is nearly 40% of the world's population!

Indian, Russian forces to conduct joint exercise

India and Russia will conduct their first ever joint exercise in October, involving a battalion of special forces from each side

I saw an article somewhere about our military's vulnerability in the cyber world. It said that the number of attacks on defense related websites have increased dramatically, and that most of these attacks originate inside China. It went on to say that China would plan for asymmetric warfare, such as shutting down the NYSE and other economic targets via the web as well as disrupting the military's command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR). If they could do something like this, it would be a very scary war. I wish Tom Clancy would write about China vs. U.S. I get the feeling that Europe would either stay neutral (it's just American unilateralism) or would try to help us, but just get flattened.

During WWII and the D-Day attack, do you know what the most successful and devastating units were??? The were called LGOP, little groups of paratroopers. After having their drops blown all over the place, men from both the 82nd and 101st banded together and carried missions. Attack supply convoys, cutting wires, and blowing key strategic points. Not under the command of any major command group, these men knew the mission and carried it out.

The initiative of America's fighting forces is unparelleled in war. In the absence of orders they attacked, and because they did, D-Day was a success.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles
