Points: 35,258, Level: 100 | Level up: 2%, 0 Points needed | | Slight problem for DTT Yesterday, I received an e-mail from the hosting company indicating the CPU usages this web site is currently taking. It looks like this web site has grown to the point where the shared hosting plan we are currently on is not going to be good enough for the web site.
The average CPU Usage each site is allowed on a shared hosting plan is roughly under 2% on a dual processor system. The past week, this site has generated the CPU Usage up to 30% (slowing down other clients on the server)
So you might have guessed what's next...dedicated or semi-dedicated hosting.
A dedicated or semi-dedicated hosting plan would increase this web sites performance dramatically as there are less clients on the server. The downside...cost.
This web site does not take in enough revenue to cover a dedicated hosting plan. Also since I am in college, I will not be able to cover those costs. So the only thing I can really afford now is a semi-dedicated hosting plan at $50/mo
The last option would be to sell the community as expenses have overlapped revenues, but I have put way too much time into this site to consider selling it. Plus I enjoy everyone who is apart of it, so it would be very upsetting for me.
I have to make a decision quickly, or else they might shut down the web site. So if I don't post much this week, that's because I am doing a lot of research for hosting options. |

hell, if only ten people gave $5/month, it would cover the $50.

When I used to do computer tech support side jobs, I would have such a hard time telling the customer how much it would cost for the job. I have no idea why I have this weakness, but I should get over it someday. |

And, it isn't fair that the expense of this site comes out of your pocket alone since there are many posters here that could contribute...such as myself.
Just let us know where we can send you a check or money order. |

How much bandwidth does CNN.com take up?
You usually have the SAME THING posted on there anywhere from 3-5 times. I don't know why that is, but it IS annoying. And while it may not take up much space, it might be a start. I don't know... |
