Burning Soldier (literally)

A British soldier jumps from a burning tank which was set ablaze after a shooting incident in the southern Iraqi city of Basra September 19, 2005. Angry crowds attacked a British tank with petrol bombs and rocks in Basra on Monday after Iraqi authorities said they had detained two British undercover soldiers in the southern city for firing on police. Two Iraqis were killed in the violence, an Interior Ministry official said. (Atef Hassan/Reuters)

I read in another article that the soldier pictured was actually ok. He received only minor injuries. Lucky SOB if you ask me.

Apparently, the Basra police handed the soldiers over to a militant group.

You can tell by the picture that he'd be fine. It's a relatively minor fire (I myself have been covered in worse flames) and it is all concentrated on his head (protected by his Kevlar Helmet) and Back (Protected by his FLAK Jacket). He likely hit the ground rolled back and forth a bit and was fine. The picture does make it look very dramatic.

I've actually been on fire 3 times in my life...

Once when I was in the Forward Gun Mount on USS Ticonderoga, I had gotten some flammable liduid on my pant leg and a spark from a malfunction in the gunmount got me...

Once when there was a firre in the machine shop I ran in to help get out two guys who were trapped, and got licked by the fire a bit...

and Once I was standing behind my buddie's race car when he decided to demonstrate his ability to shoot flames out of his tail pipe...

I've also been hit with 45000 volts of electricity, 250 volts, and the standard household 110...
