While the stats may vary from year to year, I believe your underlying point is substantially correct.
If the drugs we most strictly regulate were determined by each drug's own intrinsic detrimental pharmacology, then beverage alcohol (ethanol), and tobacco would be among the most highly restricted drugs in the country.
PS
To anyone interested, Anti may have been remiss in omitting links to these data. But why entrust your own political position on it to ONE Internet reference. I believe if you each do your own Googling about it, you'll find independent corroboration of the essence of this thread.
It's not a "War on Drugs". It's a conspiracy to treason against United States citizens, by members of their own government.

Level up: 34%, 129 Points needed | | The US uses the war on drugs as an excuse for military intervention in other countries. They brainwash Americans, tell them we need to stop drug use in America and make up a bunch of BS like if you buy marijuana you are supporting terrorism.

I think most of the pot on the market now is grown in the USA. I even think it is the #1 cash crop too. |

Level up: 24%, 43 Points needed | | Marijuana is useful for a wide variety of medical problems and, according the the Drug Enforcement Administration's Chief Administrative Law Judge, "marijuana is probably the safest therapeutically active substance known to man," and "it is safer than many of the foods we commonly eat." Marijuana is often the most effective treatment for chronic pain, glaucoma, nausea from chemotherapy, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and other medical conditions.
Heroin is a powerful pain-killer and could be used to control extreme chronic pain or the pain of severe diseases, such as cancer. The medical literature shows that heroin is significantly less hazardous than most of the drugs which are given in its place. |

| In years past, I've read that it is in California.
And considering the monumental amount of non-prohibited crops produced there, that's remarkable.
