Exactly where does Bush get his definition of 'moral purpose in the world'? He has made the rest of the world view us as bullies, war-mongers and liars.
Really, I think the Democrats are trying to impose what the majority of Americans feel is the right move. The only 'political statement' I see is Bush saying he will veto any bill with a time-line.
What are the chances of the 'enemy following us here'? We spend 3/4 of a billion dollars, a day on just the interest alone, on our national debt. How much have we spent on homeland security? Pennies in comparision. If anyone had the notion to attack us they would have walked right across our southern borders, with whatever they want, by now. Tons and tons of illegal drugs come in across our borders. Does Bush really think we buy this crap? What a crock.

Do Bush's statements ever CHANGE anybody's opinion of him or the war in Iraq anymore???

In reading his statements, I am struck by how they seem to be tailored for HIS specific audience that is in the mind-set of "we must fight them over there, or we will have to fight them over here".
A statement I find lacking on face value...

Do his statements every convince anybody from the position of opposing the war in Iraq or wanting to pull the troops home, to a new position of wanting to keep the troops there???

I know I'm biased to some degree, but quite frankly his statements come off as more "preaching to the choir" than they do as having any persuasive intent. More to appease people in his own camp who think he should give a response, instead of reaching out to people not in his camp and giving them a reason to join his camp.

President Bush: "If we leave Iraq before the job is done, the enemy will follow us here."
One thing that slays me about this statement is even if it were true, this WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED if we hadn't stepped foot in Iraq in the first place.
That, and every claim up until now about Iraq trying to achieve the capability to attack "us here" has been false. So why the @%#$ should we trust his claims that they will attack us here if we leave?
