| Patriotic Films What are your favorite patriotic films? Not cynical American movies (like "Nashville" or "Taxi Driver"), but real America-as-a-Religion patriotic flicks? *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "know this is EXACTLY why people think you shouldnt have equal rights" 2/11/08 Grace | |||||||||||||||||||||

| When I was young I was a big fan of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I also like Patton even though George C. Scott isn't much like the squeaky voiced real-life Gen. Patton. Μηδὲν ἄγαν Γνῶθι σεαυτόν Ἀνάγκᾳ δ’οὐδὲ θεοὶ μάχονται | |||||||||||||||||||||

| It's not necessarily a propaganda film, but I would most definitely say Band of Brothers; though it is a mini series. However, I would say that the most 'patriotic' film I've seen recently was Flags of Our Fathers; I thought it was alright, but I'm sure Letters from Iwo Jima is better, though it's not American propaganda. Generally though, the more 'patriotic' a film is, and the more closer it is to straight 'propaganda', usually it will end up being worse proportionally. I think really the only propaganda film that pulled off being of cinematographic worth was The Battleship Potemkin, though that was Russian. | |||||||||||||||||||||

(I'd go as far as saying that my most favorite "patriotic" story, as a whole, would be The Lord of the Rings.) And, as far as an America-based story goes, my favorite "patriotic" film would have to be Glory. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
