Masturbation is known to have health benefits... We all do it (at least 99.9999999% of us with working sexual organs who are under the age of 70)

So... What is wrong with masturbation? Why is it so taboo? Why do people get shocked when you mention it?

In an enlightened society I think we should be able to discuss such a subject openly, and intelligently...

I think that there is an archaic notion that if sex is not motivated for procreation, it is wrong or bad.

It goes back to some unhealthy ideas that spring out of religion. Sad to say...

When I was stationed in Mississippi I could have either gone out and hit on women at bars and had a lot of one night stands, risking unwanted pregnancies and STDs, or I could stay at home, rub one out and save a lot of money...

I wound up doing a little of both, but that's beside the point... The point is that Masturbation is natural, it's healthy, it's not taboo... And I would even say it should be encouraged.

I honestly had no idea that anyone did still have a problem with it, except for the Mormons (I went out with a guy who was a Mormon, and as a teenager they gave him a tract about the evils of wanking).

When I was a kid in secondary school (11-16) it was a bit more taboo to talk about it, and I think everyone thought they were the only one. I remember in a biology class our textbook referred to masturbation as "perfectly normal", and everyone looked stunned. I "came out of the closet" and admitted that I did, and one by one everyone else said "yeah, me too", which felt rather liberating

Nowadays, in the UK at any rate, people talk about it as casually as they'd mention having gone out for a meal. I see there's even a new word for it, which apparently comes from Japanese comics: "fap" (noun and verb). It's onomatopoeic (a word that sounds like the action, like "miaow" or "hiss") - so not only does it have health benefits, but it enriches the English language too!

I openly discuss Masturbation all the time... some people seem shocked, but most people usually wind up appreciating my open honesty... I mean if I am willing to tell you that I wanked off last night and what I was watching or thinking about while doing it, then I'm pretty open and honest...

I am an old fogey. I don't -- probably I should say can't -- talk about my sexual activity. Even if I am the only one involved.

And I am not saying everyone should... But it certainly should not be taboo!

I mean I wouldn't walk up to a stranger and say "Hey! I watched 'Hot Ebony Nurses' last night and wanked off!" But if my girlfriend and I or me and a buddy were having the discussion, it should not be something we are to feel ashamed of...

I think that this is a common result of the way that girls are raised. I also tend to be pretty reseved about takling about sexual likes and dislikes.

For me, it isn't that is CAN'T, I simply choose not to.
