| I have to say I agree with you this one. Trees should be saved for other uses and the forests have been ravaged by paper manufacturers for years. Hemp grows wild throughout the nation in certain areas. Instead of paying for farmers not to farm in the way of farm subsidies, payment for growing and selling Hemp crops could be utilized in order to create useful products. As for the people who wish to smoke the stuff. They are going to regardless of whether it is legal or not. I would object to legalizing Hemp for some idiot to get high on the job then make someone else pay for their habit when they do something stupid. For instance: A pot smoker does not, nor should they be allowed to operate or guide heavy equipment. Some idiot on a paving job nearly got my son ran over by a truck when a Pothead directing the machines to back up. In his doped up stupor he signaled the equipment operator and the truck driver to backup prior to looking to see if everyone was clear and that everyone was clear and no one would be ran over. Five minutes prior to that the guy had smoked a roll your own. If the drugs are ever legalized. Employers should be able to test and regulate for drugs of any type and have the ability to refuse to hire or fire such users without restrictions or fear of retribution or cost by idiot attorneys and the corrupted legal system. Common sense does not come very easily to some and to me common sense says stay sober while on a job of any type. "Hemp for paper: - One acre of hemp can produce as much usable fiber as 4 acres of trees or two acres of cotton. - Trees cut down to make paper take 50 to 500 years to grow, while hemp can be cultivated in as little as 100 days and can yield 4 times more paper over a 20 year period. Hemp vs trees (for deforestation): - One acre of hemp produces as much cellulose fiber pulp as 4.1 acres of trees, making hemp a perfect material to replace trees for pressed board, particle board, and concrete construction molds." |

| You could not have put that any better Wisdom Seeker. The only thing that I may not agree with you on is that is that marijuana could help to motivate workers. One thing I have observed, in regard to many of marijuana smoking friends, is that it is hard to get them to do anything (at least when they are high). I noticed that cutting down has really cleared up my head a lot. I am an advocate of the legalization of hemp and marijuana but just like everything else, too much of its use can have negative effects on the mind. |

Anyhow... I am certainly an advocate for abolishing the drug war, and believe in a more Libertarian way of government. Ergo, I do see the many benefits (most of which are presented in this article) of legalizing - or at least for the love of all that is good in this world, decriminalizing - marijuana. Thanks! - DigitalShaman | |
