The Political Brain, by Drew Westen
I stumbled across an article today, about a book which is coming out tomorrow - "The Political Brain," by Drew Westen. The central idea of this book is that it's emotion, not reason, that plays the key role in how people choose their leaders. Westen has been sought out as a consultant by the major Democratic presidential candidates.

Here are a few links that people might find interesting:

Do people vote off of emotions? Yes, I don't think I needed a professor in psychology to tell me that one. But should they? Absolutely not. Because when you vote on emotions you end up with Presidents like this one. I don't think exploiting this voter ignorance like the Republicans have is the best thing Democratic candidates could be doing; perhaps educating people on the virtues of using their heads would be the best thing.

I have to agree with you, Katz. Furthermore, I do believe that only an educated person could make a fair and logical choice when they vote for President. Should you need a certain level of education to vote? Or, perhaps be required to pass a test on basic American Government before casting a ballot? That is probably another issue.

That being said, I am becoming less interested in politics as the days pass. I am perhaps like most Americans nowadays who have all but given up on politicians to solve our basic problems. However, one thing that I haven't given up on yet is the American people. Through education and web sites like this, perhaps people like us can in fact make a difference.

Anyhow, come 2008, I will probably make the best logical choice that I know how to make. I will simply write in the candidate whom I believe is the best choice for America. . . . ME!
