How the Helping Culture Is Eroding Self-Reliance
by Christina Hoff Sommers, Sally Satel
This is a fascinating look at the rise of "therapism" and non-judgmentalism, triggered by the theories of sociologists like Abraham Maslow.
Several schools banned children from playing tag because "in tag there is always a victim".
The Roman Catholic church saw its pedophile priests as good men who had fallen astray, and required intensive counselling before returning to their flocks. Why didn't the church just call the cops?
The end result of therapism is the loss of personal responsibility. Nobody is responsible for anything. We are all victims of our respective "disorders".
