The ancient Greeks used to say, "You shall know a man by the friends that he keeps." Given the nature of their friends and advisers, what are we to conclude about the Republican party:
Stop the madness before us it stops!

Uhh, Loyalty Day is May 1st, and the speech you provided a link for was given in September. When I was in school I was taught that May was the 5th month of the year and September was the 11th month. I am sorry that you fail to recognize the difference in the months. I would perhaps consider suing you teachers for not teaching you better.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

Bush's proclamation would have been the 48th one given since the law was enacted. Look even Clinton gave one and Jimmy Carter as well as every President since 1959. I guess they were Nazi's one and all.

"Loyalty Day," it seems, is just another holiday that has been given another "spin" by a culture who wants the holiday to mean something else than what it has meant up until then in other cultures.

Now you know the rest of the story...

I think you mean "Labour Day"...with the more European English spelling.

Yeah, it could also be said that the US government intended "Loyalty Day" to be a counter to "Labour Day"...with all of its socialist/communist connotations.

(Although "May Day" was the technical name for that "worker" holiday in the Soviet Union...not "Labour Day.")

"May Day"..."Americanization Day"..."Labour Day"..."Loyalty Day"......

...Hmmmm...perhaps I'll just start a new holiday and call that day "May 1st Day" instead.

Well BD, if you read the article I provided the link to, I would say that it is a grievous thing that right here in the US of A, on LaboUr Day, that there was all that uproar in Chicago and that eight people were given the death penalty, only on the basis of their political beliefs...

And also, I would say that I would like to declare May 4 a good holiday too! You in?

Oh...OhDear...if you look back at America's anti-socialist/anti-communist actions of last century you'll find many, many incidents of socialist/communist persecutions...rather than just that Chicago incident.

Perhaps we can call today's holiday "May 4th Day?"
