Sure Reagan spent a lot of money..but I think that it was a good investment as the weapons arms race made us stronger militarily, while the Soviets could not keep up. I know my thoughts here are a bit off-topic, but I had to throw in those facts

Yeah, he spent a lot of money on arms we never used (thankfully), cut taxes for the rich, cut back on funding higher education, and gave us a staggering debt.

Him standing tall with the moral majority and all of the voodoo economics are not a pretty picture in my memories.

I guess Carter was much better economically when mortgage rates were off the roof..

Secondly, it's not cutting taxes for the rich. It's cutting taxes for all yet the rich get back more because they pay more. Also, this has a positive effect as unemployment is reduced due to increase job growth (I've never been hired by a poor person)

I never said I liked Carter either. He had good intentions, but screwed the economy. The tax cuts and spending increases under Reagan nearly bankrupted us. Guess you forget the savings and loan crisis. I'm sure Charles Keating enjoyed those tax cuts. Then there's Neil Bush and his 1.6 billion dollar bailout from Silverado.

Then there was the fiascos in Lebanon, central america, and Iran.

Go ahead and be nostalgic of a golden era that wasn't.

I think it's a toss-up between Buchannan and Bush.

Of course Jimmy Carter wants the country to think of President Bush as the worst president ever, for that would finally remove that title from his name. Come on now, this from a man who sought nuclear arms advice from his 10 year old daughter, and the critics complain about Nancy Reagan using psyhics.

This from a President who saw Americans held hostage for over a year and was unable to do a thing about it except for a failed rescue attempt. The same President who negotiated away the Panama Canal built by Americans with American money to Panama only to see it slowly bought up by the Japenese. This from the President who did not realize that the Soviets sought to expand their influence until they invaded Afghanistan in 1979.

Double digit unemployment, interest rates and sky-high inflation. The same president who had the audacity to tell the American people that we had a crisis of confidence. The same President attacked by killer rabbits. A president who saw Americans standing in line on odd and even days to get gasoline.

Of Course Jimmy Carter would call President Bush the worst President ever, so Americans would finally quit calling him that. Well, just ain't gonna happen.

By looking at the results of the Poll, it amazes me how short our collective memories seem to be. Either that, or the youth and inexperience of so many on this board.
