Senate Confirmation Hearings
I was just watching the hearing, live, on the TV. I think Alito is in. He seems like he is just concerned with the laws as they are and in upholding them. I can't say he has my backing because of his associations, but I do think he is in.
Senator Grassley (R)IA, is Questioning Alito. Grassley is backing Alito. The following is what was said: 'I can understand you making this ruling against what you promised this senate, We all know if every Senator did what he promised every constituate, there would be no more Senators.' probably not word for word, but the jist of it.
I leave you to make a decision on what this means.

I think they lie mostly, although I do believe it is perfectly legit that they frequently change their stance. They are human. Anyone who does not change their stance from time to time is an idiot.

Re: Senate Confirmation Hearings
They lie to get in so they can further their fundamentalist agenda and keep their cronies fed.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

What bulls hit this hearing is turning out to be. I've been listening to the media talk about how Alito's wife started crying and how the senators who would say such horrible things about Alito are at fault.
Crock of Sht!!! Did they all think they were going to a movie? If Alito brought them in there they should hear what ever is brought up with out complain from anyone. If Mrs. Alito feels a need to be emotional she can watch this proceeding on TV.
Some may even think this an attempt to get easier questions to answer. I don't, I think she just broke down, but this type of crap is just going to add more conjecture and bull to this hearing. Daytime soaps are on this par. What a shame.

The hearings are a complete waste of time. If someone avoids important issues they should be thrown out of there by their ears.

Because he is not answering the questions I feel he will be bad for the future of this country.

Actually hev, I have to be honest, he is doing a pretty good job of answering the questions and the grilling was actually over when she broke down. She started crying when one of the senators who was backing Alito asked him if he was a bigot, which Kennedy had implied. As soon as he answer that he was not the Senator started saying 'of course you are not' and went into his praises for Alito, she started to cry. I don't think Alitio did too bad under questioning though. He had an answer for everything and I got the feeling most of it was rehearsed. They have teams of lawyer to figure out what the questions will be if they need them and I am sure that some really was written. Anyway, that was my impressions.

I was referring more to the line of questioning in regards to roe vs wade where he refused to answer simple questions.

People like Edward Kennedy are bad for this country. This guy should keep his fat mouth shut!

You're right tyreay. If you were in a large important meeting that basically has to do with your future, and these people are ragging on ya, i'm sure your wife would be very emotional.

My wife would not cry over something like that and if I though she would be that hurt by the whole thing I would have left her home. Why make it a daytime soap, was my point?
