Freest in what sense? Depends how you define freedom.

Most prosperous? Depends how you measure it. Kuwait has a higher GNP per capita for example

The Britsh empire was clearly oppressing the Colonies. Empires have a habit of doing that.

And as far as gay rights being in the Constitution, there are many rights held to the people that are not specifically named in the Constitution. That is what the 9th amendment is all about.

First you have to establish "gay" as a distinct separate "people". But wouldn't that in itself admit that there is something different about them than people that aren't "gay?

I doubt whether the founding fathers had "gay rights" in mind.
