Bush Make No Mistake Israel Can Fight It”s Own Battle!
New photographs of Israel's Dimona nuclear reactor published last month by the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) have confirmed that Israel has the capacity to have produced 100-200 nuclear warheads.

The Dimona reactor

The high-resolution photos, taken in July by the Space Imaging Corporation's IKONOS satellite on behalf of the FAS, provide important clues as to the amount of plutonium and enriched uranium the reactor can produce, which in turn can be used to estimate the possible size of Israel's nuclear arsenal.

A comparison of the IKONOS photos with declassified American satellite photos from the 1960's indicates that there have been no additional cooling towers built at Dimona since 1971. According to FAS, this means that that the power capacity of the reactor has probably not increased significantly during this period. This contradicts previous reports, based on information leaked to the press by former Dimona technician Mordechai Vanunu in 1986, that the power level had increased to well over 150 megawatts.

The satellite imagery also indicates that Israel has probably not undertaken large-scale production of enriched uranium at Dimona. Although previous reports have alleged that the Israelis began projects to enrich uranium using gas centrifuge and laser separation techniques in the 1980's, the IKONOS photos reveal that newly-constructed facilities at the site are not large enough for industrial-scale uranium enrichment. According to FAS, "existing pilot-scale facilities [for uranium enrichment] would not appear to have the potential to substantially increase the total size of the Israeli nuclear weapons stockpile."

"Based on plausible upper and lower bounds of the operating practices at the reactor, Israel could have produced enough plutonium for at least 100 nuclear weapons, but probably not significantly more than 200 weapons," said the FAS report. Previous estimates had ranged as high as 400.

Has it ever occured to you that having an ally armed with nuclear weapons in the Middle East is probably a good idea, as far as our safety goes?

Israel is strategically important to the United States for a number of reasons. However, Israel most certainly cannot fight its own battle, because it would destabalize the entire Middle East. If America attacks one country, that country is destabalized. If Israel attacks one country, the rest of them jump all over Israel like a pack of wolves. Six Day War, Yom Kippur War... Need I go on?

That, and there's the whole 'population' thing.

While serving in the IDF is mandatory, Israel is still only the size of New Jersey. There are more Jews in New York City than in Israel, and the population of Israel is about 80% Jewish. That means that America has more soldiers in its pinky than in Israel's entire body.

Has it ever occured to you that Israel could or should have taken care of Saddam and his WMDs, yellow cake & 500 tons of chemical and biological weapons?

We don't see them in Iraq!
We don't see them in Iraq because Israel's neighbors wouldn't take too kindly to the situation, and would probably plunge the entire region into another round of warfare.

Being well-armed doesn't necissarily mean that one is well suited to go to war.

So if we bomb Iran for Israel, it will make everything better?

It will make the U.S. less safe!

Bombing Iran for Israel?

Um... No. Last time I checked, Iranians were shouting "Death to America" in addition to "Death to Israel."

That doesn't look like Golda Meir.

I suppose that's an Israeli flag that they're burning.

Has it ever occurred to you that Israel has been in just as many human rights violations and violations of the geneva conventions as some of our 'enemies'? Israel being an "ally" reminds me of how Saddam was an "ally" because of the US's "strategic importance" over the Russians, or perhaps how the CIA's creation and funding of the Al-Qaeda was "strategically important" over the Russians. The enemy of our enemy isn't our friend. Frankly Israel with WMD's is perhaps just as or more dangerous than Iraq with WMD's.

But obviously the prospect of Iran, Iraq, or Israel having weapons of mass destruction are nowhere as dangerous as the United States possessing stock piles of weapons of mass destruction. American politicians freak out when Iranian politicians talking about "wiping Israel off the map". But then they turn around and threaten to nuke Mecca if a nuclear terrorist strike was to happen America. The United States is the largest exporter of terrorism in the world, and it also has one of the largest stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction in the world.
