Morality is not contingent on religion to exist. Therefore religion only detracts from the purity of morality. |

Or better yet, perhaps when they further break down the money that goes to the military so everyone can see exactly where it is being spent. It is so easy to say take money from the military, but never exactly saying where.
SO what should it be???? Pay cuts for the soldiers, less ammunition, less fuel, less vehicles, less clothing, less housing, or what!!!!!

dmk | I would say a start would be fewer invasions of foreign nations every decade. That should cut a few trillion off the budget. And hey the money may even be used to buy food for the poor. Or maybe by permanantly improving public schools and colleges. Or how about a fund that subsidizes all education. Or maybe free healthcare for poor people.
Give the soldiers the same pay, same ammo aetc etc. Just stop sending them out on ineffective missions. Yeah that's right.. i said ineffective. none of the wars started in this decade have made you americans safer. Your lives are more in danger now than ever. And they wouldn't have been if the bush admin didn't sonsistently do things that drive people to homicidal rage.

dmk | Cut nothing our soldiers need.
Eliminate funding completely for the School of the Americas (I've forgotten the new name).
Eliminate funding for buying/building more nukes. We have enough to destroy the planet and then some.
That's off the top of my head. Hmm... I found the DoD budget for 2007 (large PDF file), but can't find these items in it, so I can't say how much we'd save.
Oh, and one more: better diplomacy. I often wonder how many of our diplomats, and those in the administration, have had training in anger management and conflict resolution? If we don't *use* the military, it doesn't *cost* as much! |

If anything, I feel like we are hated even more, so the danger has increased. The general goodwill towards Americans after 9/11 has evaporated (remember all those photos of people all over the world leaving flowers at US embassies?). And I don't think it is only the bush administration that's been driving people to homicidal rage. Other administrations had to have gotten the ball rolling first. Bush just keeps it in play. A good start would be for the foreign countries to stop housing terrorists that attack us or are a threat to our security. Duh!!! |

There never has been and there never will be. Where was the universal mom in 1939 and 1941 when the nazis and the Japanese wanted to take over the world? Where is the universal mom now when Islamic nazis want to take over the world? Time to wake up and grow up. |
