I just had this flashback. There was a TV set up in school for people to watch the winter olympics and I nearly got my ass whooped when I cheered for an American that took gold in some skiing event. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Capitalism is a failure as well...at least to the 850 million people in the world who are starving or the 1.2 billion people who live on less than a dollar a day. People who support capitalism must naive, under the age of 25 and living in a dorm room. Dumb asses with no life experiences. Why, I bet they haven't even been outside the United States!! Seriously, they must be complete idiots to not see how badly capitalism is working out for the world. Oh well, it's just a stage of social evolution. Capitalism is just a trend. It's internal flaws will be its undoing, sort of like...feudalism and slave based economies. When will these misguided fools get it? | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Communists have run for president actually, and why I'd love to elaborate on the party I'm affiliated to! How did you know?? As a matter of fact, communists, socialists, and anarchists have been instrumental in starting up coalitions, and doing a lot of grass roots work. The most obvious being ANSWER, which isn't really a coalition, more like a front group, for the organization Worker's World Party, who also ran their own candidate on an anti-war ticket, and got a few thousand votes. Another, somewhat less notable example is, a local anti-war coalition called NAWC: http://www.northlandantiwar.org/ Was started by us, Socialist Action, and has blossomed into a broad coalition with greens, democrats, independents, students, and anyone else who wants to join, united around the single issue of bringing the troops home now. And NAWC by the way was successful for the largest rally in this area's history by almost 10 fold! (2,500 versus 300 in the Vietnam days). As a matter of fact, labor laws, environmental laws, unions, child safety laws, etc. etc., were all fought for, bled for, died for by working people, and led by political parties like the communist party and the socialist worker's party. I'm damn proud to be part of such a history. And ask those in Africa who have had their countries raped and pillaged by colonial Britain how well they think the free market is working in their local villages. Or by almost every country in Latin America that's been terrorized by graduates of the School of the Americas (located in Ft. Benning Georgia [in case you missed it, that's in capitalist America]), the women who've been raped, the union leaders who've been killed, or the children who've been working in factories, how well they think capitalism is working. Or, try something a little less esoteric, ask the children in Iraq who are being killed, terrorized, can't learn because there's no money going to their schools (still), just what they think of capitalism. | |||||||||||||||||||||
