That thought crossed my mind (about the paying taxes).

Where in the bible does it say not to feed people?

It says in Proverbs I think not to feed people if they will not work. I'll try and find it.

2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

As for "why these New Orleans evacuees are such criminals"... well, I try not to generalize about people. Sometimes they change. And we don't know each person's situation. We don't know that those who are still unemployed are sitting on their "lazy asses" expecting someone else to support them. We haven't interviewed them.

I myself respond better to encouragement than to criticism. Perhaps others do as well.

I do sense in your tone that you are angry about the situation. Why?
I'm sick to death of people making excuses, while I work and pay stifling amounts of taxes.

Good grief, I have never NOT worked. For instance, I worked almost 40-hours per week, as a college freshman, in addition to pulling 22 credits. I've done this my whole life. I was married, with 3 kids, and was working 50+ hours per week when I did graduate work. I spent COUNTLESS nights studying until 1-1:30 AM, then getting up at 6:00 AM and doing the routine over again. If I can do it, so can they.

And this is in spite of the fact that I've got a back that's so bad that I often can't stand up straight.

The VAST majority of all America's poor, uneducated and unemployed are that way because they CHOOSE to be that way. So yes, they need to quit making excuses, get off their lazy asses and get an education and a job. Period.

Thanks for finding it, and you're right. And that verse makes me think there might be another similar one, since it says, "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you"...

I had a feeling you might feel that way, but have learned not to assume.

Yikes, what a grueling schedule you kept! Hopefully it's not so bad now!

I used to work with the homeless. I admit there are people who cannot take care of themselves because of physical or mental handicaps. The people Jefferson is talking about are the lazy assholes who can work but wont and are getting government money from those of us who do work.

It wasn't even that bad then. You set your mind to something, and do what has to be done. There's nothing magical about it.

The problem with 99% of America's "poor" comes down to two things:
1. They don't realize they're not poor. In fact, with all the government hand-outs, a family can be VERY well situation without ever working a day of their lives. America's poor are RICH compared to the world's poor.
2. They want everything handed to them, without having to earn anything.
