The sad thing is that most of these mentally incapable "homeless" used to be institutionalized. As was evidenced by the book, "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest", the conditions weren't ideal. In fact, in some cases they were nothing short of abusive. Still, MOST mental institutions were very good and provided food and shelter.

But that all changed in the mid-1960s. Now it's "inhumane" to institutionalize mentally ill people. So they wander the streets.

Which is better?

Even so, that does not excuse laziness.

With temperatures going down below freezing during Michigan winters, I would think that having shelter would be better than being outside homeless. I hope I don't ever have to make that choice.

I've seen guys who refuse to go to a shelter in the winter and it was in the midwest where it is really cold. Why? They didn't want to take a bath. They didn't want to follow rules of the shelter. They wanted to drink. All kinds of reasons. I knew a guy who lost all his toes from frostbite. It happens all the time. There are people on the streets who are anti-social and you can do nothing about it. It's a fact of life.

Here's another thing that I KNOW to be factually true...

MANY of these "homeless" people run a national route. They're up north in the summer, then move through the south during the winter months.

The ancient Greeks used to say, "You shall know a man by the friends that he keeps." Given the nature of their friends and advisers, what are we to conclude about the Republican party:
Stop the madness before us it stops!

Yes. And they probably don't panhandle or live off charity.

lol... I never said anything about outsourcing, just was thinking that if there were about 37,000 more unemployed persons in New Orleans, between January and August, that there would have been news about it.

That article was from 2004... does he still feel that way?
