I didn't say he was an extreme conservative. I said replacing the first woman to ever serve on the Supreme Court with a white male is a step backwards in the progress of our democracy.
Yes, I know you didn't say that, I was referring to Tadpole's post.

Plus, I don't think a white male is a step backwards towards democracy, if he does a good job, what does it matter which race or sex he belongs to?
Oh, well you quoted me so I thought you were referring to me. No worries.

I'm just saying, it's a step backwards in the overall progression of our democracy. The makeup of the country is not all white males. The Supreme Court shouldn't be either.
That's my point exactly, shouldn't the highest court in the land be as representative of the population it governs as possible?

Also, I'm going to add this to the debate...

Nothing happens in Washington without some kind of political reason. Roberts worked for a law firm that helped Bush's legal fight in 2000 that won him the Presidency. Now, "best man for the job" people can chew on that for a little bit.

Oh it's obvious that the only reason the man was nominated is because he was one of Bush's rumpswabbers... But what I ask is this, haven't all previous nominations simply gone to friends of the sitting president? Don't get me wrong, I do not condone the nomination of this man at all, but I think all justices get nominated because they are presidential butt buddies.

Butt buddies or someone owes someone a favor.

I was just adding that for everyone who believed the propaganda that says "Oh yeah, extensive research done by Bush to find the right man....'"

I am curious, did any of the conservative supporters of this guy know anything about him at all before his nomination or are you guys just supporting him because Fox News tells you to? Do you guys really not care about his connections with big business or his stance on womens rights?

What pisses me off is Bush moved the nomination date up just to smoke screen the Rove issue. Thanks again Bush.... sidestep, sidestep.
