If I see you desicrating a flag, I will stomp a mud-hole in your ass. I consider it an attack on this great nation, and consider it my duty as a member of the armed forces.
Then you might as well kick somebody's ass for putting Support Our Troops magnets on their car, or kick somebody's ass for endorsing candidates, or kick somebody's ass for saying they think the President's policies are wrong....because it's all political speech and it's all protected.

And for the record, I would never intentionally desecrate the American flag.
You are missing the point.

I suppose diversity isn't something you think the flag stands for...
I agree with you. And The flag does stand for diversity. But this is one area where I am most definately an extremeist. I see an attack on my flag as an attack on my country, which I will remind you I am SWORN to defend.
Way to keep things in perspective.
How did I go out of perspective?
The flag stands for as much injustice as it does liberty and freedom. When you defend it you are also defending that injustice. To have such an extreme view about a situation like that is to loose perspective in my opinion.
NO SIR!

IT DOES NOT!

The flag stands for Freedom and Justice for all. The ideal this country was founded on. Sure this country does a lot of things that is contrary to that ideal, but that does not change the ideal the flag stands for. We are not a perfect nation sir, but we are a damn fine one, founded on the finest of principles. And it is those principles which the flag stands for, nothing more, nothing less. To try to say otherwise is ignorance. An ignorance afforded to you by the flag!
Very idealistic. It stands for corruption, injustice, pollution, rascism, & sexism as much as it does freedom and justice for all. You don't get to pick and choose.

eh I don't think you can really compare the American Flag to magnets on people's vehicles.

OF COURSE IT'S IDEALISTIC! IT'S A FUCKING IDEAL!

That's the definition...

Do you really think they made the flag saying... "Let's just see them niggers try to vote when we are done with this..." Or "Oooooh I can't wait to screw an Arab with a broom handle during questioning..." No!

We were founded on IDEALS...

And Ideals tend to be IDEALISTIC!

I wasn't.

You guys are missing the point.

Burning an American flag and putting a Support Our Troops(or a W '04, or Pro-choice etc) magnet on your car is the same ACTION.

That action, of course, is politically expressing yourself.

To me, it's all the same. Saying you would kick someone's ass for burning the American flag is the same kind of selfishness as people who file complaints to the FCC about Howard Stern and Janet Jackson's boobie. It's the same kind of selfishness that the KKK in Mississippi had when they murdered three voting rights activists in the 1960s.
"I don't like that" or "I don't agree with that." That's fine. It also doesn't matter, because everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone has the right to express themself. It's your passion about this subject that is making you miss the point I think, and no one is blaming you for that. I certainly am not.
