You title the thread Are the Republicans, but then the entire article you reference is about the New Democrats in the Western states, who are fiscal conservatives and moderate on social issues.

The problem with Republicans, is that they have forgotten what got them to the majority in the first place, and have become enamored with power. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Thus we saw them swept out of power, much the same as were the democrats in 1994.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

The issue is, without a doubt, power, at least in the government, but in the West people are becoming more socially liberal, which can't be a consequence of that. I think it's just that people out in places like Colorado and Nebraska are adopting more of a "live and let live" mindset. That's why they're libertarian and populist. They want as little intervention while maintining as much control over their own affairs as possible.

Where are you getting these ideas?

Nebraska is pretty much hard-core Republican. Do you think they're still fightin' the injuns out there?

And with Montana and Nebraska understood, it is time for a bit of a commercial break...

Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm...nothing finer than to see The Commander in Chief backing the Pack!

How can a man pick his team so well and yet his policies so totally slurp?

I think it's fine just as is, Jeff. No need to go early on my account.

Besides, without the cheese, I was thinking imPEACH, but with it, I say, peaches and cheese don't really go too well together...
so as is, you might just be saving the Pres. from my sig on yet another online petition to have him impeached!

It's all esprit de corp.
