Everyone does pay taxes. Just about every transaction that you make you pay taxes.

Come now, when we talk about everyone paying taxes we are talking about the income tax. Don't cut corners like that. We are talking about a flat tax and a fair tax, which implies a change to the income tax.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

A rather serious change.
Anybody know of any research on the issue regarding what tax values would be if a "flat tax" were imposed?
What tax values would be necessary to maintain the current level of national tax income?
Just curious...

If you're talking about the federal "income tax", it's not a tax on all Americans. I've already posted about this anyway. You must have missed it...

Then what are you talking about now then?
Are you refering to sales tax then?
All Americans don't pay that either,
ALASKA
DELAWARE
MONTANA
NEW HAMPSHIRE
OREGON
don't have state sales tax, correct me if I am wrong but there isn't a federal sales tax.

Anyway whatever your point was it was unclear

Embedded in the price of every product that you buy are the taxes paid by the producer of that product. They are added as the cost of doing business. If the producer does not add up all of the costs of producing the product that he makes, including the taxes paid on the property, the inventory taxes that are paid, taxes to State and federal government, and etc., then he is only fooling himself as to the total costs of production. To the total cost, then, is added an amount for a profit. The consumers, then, pay all of these taxes when they purchase the product.

When there is such a class difference/struggle in this country I don't see how you can view it as fair.

We have far too many people that don't have enough and far too many people that have far too much.

A flat tax would only exacerbate and accelerate the social problems facing this country. I believe a flat tax system would increase crime as a result.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

Here is an example, presented by Senator Borah from Idaho, in the Congressional Record, 26 July 1912:
Quote:
In 1898 a tax was put upon companies engaged in the business of refining sugar, refining oil, and manufacturing and selling tobacco. It is well known - no longer disputed - that that entire tax was passed on to the consumer, and one peculiar feature of the history of that matter is that after the tax was repealed the companies omitted to take off the extra charge which they had placed there by reason of the tax.
