True, but I just thought it was ironic that they said 'hey, you have more debt, so we are going to make it harder for you to pay us back'. They would have been better off keeping the rate the way it was. We paid it off immediately and closed it. They lost all that revenue.

The only alternative to that is you have the public responsible for the stupid mistakes and actions of others. "Survival of the fittest" or "watch your own ass". You choose your phrase, they all mean the same.

I'm with you on the need for everyone to assume personal responsibility, but if this mortgage crisis is left to sort itself out via market forces then everyone will suffer.
