I think it should be optional. It should be something a person can opt into. Like the Government Employee's Thrift Savings Plan.

Truthfully, I believe that if you cannot offer it as an option to the entire country, they need to scrap the thrift plan and the plan that Congress itself uses, and force them to follow the same plan as the rest of the country. I wonder then how many of them would still be up on their soap box defending a system that is racist, sexist and corrupt.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

I am curious, what do you have against the Thrift Savings Plan? I know a lot of guys who invest in it and like it.

I have nothing against it at all, except the fact that the government is allowed to exempt itself from laws. Privatization of Social Security will allow those of us young enough to invest our money. The rate of return on SS is ridiculous. I could earn more money by just placing my money in a bank account earning a measly 3% than I would get from SS. I just threw that out there because the opponents of private SS have their own versions.

I have nothing against the thrisft saving plan, except the fact that the government exempts itself from the laws it doesn't like, while forcing them on the rest of us. If you will not allow those of us willing to invest our SS, then you should not offer private plans to your employees. Let the opponents of private acounts feel what its like to no longer have any.

I agree that the ROI on SS is ridiculously low, and it is the only legal Pyramid scheme. What laws is TSP exemted from? I really don't know.

Wow I never really looked at it that way. That is a great argument I can use against someone who is against private accounts. Thanks!

  • The best course of action with respect to Social Security is to sunset the program, grandfathering (on a pro-rated basis) those who have contributed. There is no justification for the federal government involving itself in my financial affairs.

Wait a minute. Terrible logic and terrible stat because it leaves out the very important fact of how much money you have to have in your account at 3% to make it work. Probably a hell of a lot more than most Americans???
