There are immigrants worldwide. It isn't unique to America. But here our neighbors to our south have it so much worse than us. Want to solve our immigration problem? Help them make their homeland better. But we don't seem to give a shit about our own people... you people on this board have convinced me of this. So why would we want to help them?

Pathetic views coming from an isolated populous.
You just made the point I think many of us are saying. We have to deal with our own problems, we can not focus on thiers. It is up to them to solve thier problems. They are just as capable as we are.

I don't think Saddam was capable of making his homeland better. We took him out and now Iraq is free. The people are showing how much they enjoy freedom by the mass ammount of Iraqis at the polls in January.

I think the goverment does concentrate on the American people. The main thing they are concentrating on now is our safety. Lets not encounter another day like 9/11. Our brave troops are fighting terrorism so we can better ourselves in the future by preventing terrorist attacks and ensure the safety of you and I.

Yes we have seen many goverment programs not being funded. Could it be that the goverment for decades has been using our Social Security money to pay for programs and we are just noticing how much of a problem this has caused???Bush has had a lot to deal with during his term in office.

I'm almost sure that If 9/11 never happened, we wouldn't be debating like this on these boards.

Oh I am sure we would. People love to argue, and politicians (on all sides) provide lots of ammo.

The problem is this: we could help our own, and have enough left over to help them. We choose not to.

We can not help everyone. Thier is nothing wrong with America putting Americans first. Should we choose to help another country that is kudos for us, but should not be expected.

When we can help our own and them and choose not to there is no kudos envolved.

And who says we SHOULD help them just because we can?

Where does this breed of optimism come from?

Because it would benefit us if we helped them. i would see that as the best reason.

besides that fuzzy feeling you get from helping someone selflessly.
