H80 said it best: People, its time to start using coupons and any other saver's club advantages you have. Many people still view this as being "poor". It is not. Its being smart.
Now; to Walmart. I can't speak to anybody's social view of Walmart. I know they are seen by many as the big bad wolf blowing our houses down.
But, what is a big attraction to Walmart for many is their SuperCenters. These stores feed into the American addiction for convenience. We can do grocery shopping, along with many other non-food shopping all in one place!
Now when you figure in the price of gas today, what do you think about first- politics you can't control; or the money in your pocket that you need to support your family with? This is what is going through the minds of many people when they go shopping nowadays.
"I can get everything done all in one place one just one trip"!
That is just one of the reasons why Walmart is such a force in American retail society, and always will be.
You forgot to mention that in the SuperWal-Marts, you can get your nails done, hair done, taxes, banking, pictures, glasses, and go to the pharmacy all in one shot. And a number of them also have restraunts too...So you not only can go grocery shopping, but eat out instead of going home and cooking.

Like you said, with gas prices as they are, who wants to empty half a tank of fuel going around getting all your business done when you can do it under one roof? And cheaply, if you're packing those coupons with you...

For people who are short of money is it really necessary to pay someone else to "do" your nails!!?!

People that are short on money are the first ones in the door.

What's funny is that you and Gary there assume that anyone that shops there is automatically 'short of money'...People looking for deals and not having to drive all over hade's half acre would find a SWM very convient as well as a thrifty way to get their business done.

It isn't just 'poor' people that like to save money, you do know that don't you?

Somehow I don't see Hugh Hefner or Donald Trump sitting in their dressing gowns on a Sunday morning cutting coupons!

Actually, you are all correct. With gas prices today that probably will be higher tomorrow, yes, getting all one's shopping and errands done in one place on one trip is Walmart's great advantage.
Gary, you are also on point that paying another to do their nails could be another of those things people should consider as a luxury that can be done without.
I don't see the correlation of Hugh Hefner and Donald Trump in your post. I'm sure they are not cutting coupons. But I'm sure that they have made money by saving money in areas where money could be saved; and spending it in areas that made money.

I'm talking about people that "get their nails did". Not people that shop at Wal-Mart. You misunderstood.
I know people that could barely make rent that HAD to make sure their hair and nails were "on point".

Dems da folk I'm talking about. I have nothing against Wal-Mart. I was there yesterday, and I got a big run planned today.

Unfortunately, there are too many people who can be classified like this, Karen. We always want to look and dress better than what we truly can afford to. Another problem that is a by-product of "living outside one's means".
