Not only that, you are also assuming alot about us. I guess thats ok because 'CONSERVATIVES make it work'. How ignorant. 4. 1. Look carefully. I said nothing. YOU said that she was well - which is an ignorant and arrogant assumption. My wife's medical issues are none of your business. But let's understand this fully: I DO NOT USE THEM AS AN EXCUSE.

Why are you assuming that I was working at a minimum wage job? Why are you assuming that I am working at a minimum wage job? And why are you so concerned about how much money I make - other than for the fact that you've bought into the Democrats' "class envy" mantra?

You keep whining your ass off about minimum wage jobs, but let me tell you something... Our oldest son, when he first went off to college, got a job unloading trucks at UPS at night. He was 19, and his starting wage was $10 per hour. After 60 days he got pro-rated benefits. In addition, he got $1500 per semester toward college.

What was his education? High school diploma. What were his qualifications? He was willing to work.

That's $21,000 per year (full-time) PLUS BENEFITS (which were far better than mine). Had he been working full-time, his TOTAL PACKAGE would have been over $27,000 per year - NOT including over-time. And that would have been his FIRST YEAR.

Do some math. That ain't minimum wage, sister.

Had he decided to make a career of UPS, by the time he's my age, he'd be making AT LEAST $30,000 per year more than I am - with UPS having paid for a large share of his college education.

So pull your head out of the sand. If MY kid can walk in to UPS, with no qualifications, and land that kind of job, those kinds of jobs are available ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES.

Bottom line: Too many people want to sit on their lazy asses and make excuses.

I'm not assuming, it's called sarcasm, and I'm surprised you didn't catch on.

In some areas of this country, minimum wage is what is out there. From your son's situation, it would seem that is not the case in your area, though I am sure a lot of young kids wouldn't even try to apply for anything other than a low paying entry-level job, because they don't know they have a shot. Some of these things are learned behaviors.

So you choose to put people down, instead of trying to understand them, which is not doing anything to solve any of the problems, so why bother saying anything in the first place. You can't solve a problem unless you understand it.

Your solution of relocating to where there are better jobs is not a feasible solution to people who have nothing to start with and a lot of people are not willing to leave their families and friends, leaving elder parents and grandparents to fend for themselves or in "retirement communities". (Do you know what most people die of in retirement homes is? Depression.)

And taking children out of school systems is not in the best interest of the children, more often than not, because it interferes with their social development, especially when they are in their adolescent years. Can they adjust, yes, but it is not in their best interest, and once again, you're more likely to see depression develop.

Anyway, what I'm saying is there is a much bigger picture out there than you are seeing, from where you are sitting. You don't have all the answers and you don't have even half the information to look at this objectively.

1. Bullshit, you said in another post she was holding down three jobs. No one with any real disabilities could do that. Conviniently your wife's health is suddenly none of my business. Why use it as an excuse when you can avoid another question entirely?
2. She answered this already-sarcasm. We really don't care what you make.
3. More Bullshit, you were able to tell us that your boy would have made 30,000 a year more than you so you have an exact figure. You are just sidesstepping they question. So you don't file the EZ form. Maybe this is too complicated for you to figure out your tax breaks.
4. More bullshit, I am civilized until you become insultive so don't even try.
5. No I am not. I don't collect SSI (as explained above) and have paid into the system for decades. I am getting back what is mine through my wife's education. I'm glad I could assist her.
6. I would only get real advice from you if my cat was actually spewing shit from it's mouth.
I am done even dealing with you Jefferson. I have tried to make peace with you in the past, more than once, and you say "oh yes I'll make an effort" but a week later you are right back to being a dick. I know for fact others here feel the same way I do. I have very real health issues that are much worse when I am tense and also limit the amount of time I can sit at this computer. Call it excuses, whatever floats your boat. I won't waste the time I have arguing about something you changed the subject on with someone who I already know opinions are warped and will never change.

Thousands of Mexicans are doing it every day. Looks to me like they're willing to do what too many Americans are either too lazy, or too complacent, or too comfortable to do.

All you've done here is continue to make excuses.

1. My wife has been hospitalized with clinical depression. Happy now?

2. You and your wife ASSUME that I'm making butt-loads of money. You are both WRONG.

3. I figure all my own taxes, thank you. I also do both of my sons' tax returns. What you don't understand is that "how much of a tax cut did you get?" is a really stupid question - a SIMPLETON'S question that has no simple answer.

4. You're civilized ONLY as long as everybody agrees with you. When that doesn't happen, you repeatedly get arrogant and abusive. Those who dish out need to be man enough to take it back.

5. DOES YOUR WIFE GET PELL GRANTS to help with her college? If the answer is YES - and I'm guessing it is - then stop complaining about how so many people in American "can't make it" and "can't do it" and there's "no help for the little guy" - because there is.

6. Sounds like you need to clean up your house, if that's the case.

7. More compassion from the liberal. How nice. How tolerant. How typical. You can just feel the love.

Mexicans? It's always about Mexicans with you and what Mexicans will do that Americans won't. There are quite a few differences in our cultures, but that's a different topic.
(And don't even go there, I know you're getting ready to say I'm being prejudice, but I've been going through two classes where I'm being taught to find out about the differences in cultures to better appreciate diversity and find ways to ease tensions between different cultures, so I don't think that's going to cut it.)
I think the minimum wage is unacceptable, you think it's irrelevant. I think it's more civilized to agree that we disagree and move on.

I'm perfectly fine with that.

My whole point is that when there are jobs that pay $8 - $10 per hour TO START, minimum wage is irrelevant. And there are, by the way, those $8 - $10 per hour jobs EVERYWHERE.

Anywhooo... I'm glad to know you're going to college to better your "lot in life". Seriously. That speaks volumes about your character!

Minimum wage is also set by each state. In Iowa restuarants for instance can get away with paying less than $4.00 an hour. If federal law does not have a wage increase that effects the state minimum wage laws. It would be of no effect.

Not everyone has a mom or dad to live with or another friend or family member. It is not just alien family stacking in housing and living in garages, it is American families.

On the other hand increasing wages does no good without tax reform. Many small businesses could pay their employees more if their ta and insurance bills went down.

How do I know this I used to have forty employees. I quit the business after these cost went to high and my employees paychecks did not increase.

If a small business enterprise employer can give wage increases without the excessive cost of taxes and insurance, many would gladly give their employees pay raises.

Minimum wage will always be relevant as long as people suffer from greed. $8 an hour was a standard for broom pushers in 1992. Been there done that.

Excuse any typos, I used to have a secretary who typed my correspondences.
