Jefferson, we both know that the problem lies with the United States, who allows this to go on because it benefits us. What is the U.N. going to do to us? Sanction us? Please, we're too powerful.

Sorry that I missed this topic... It's quite interesting.

My answer would be yes and no.

Slavery would indicate that people are being forced to work without adequate compensation. While this could be said to be true of illegals in America, it's not the same in other countries. Yes, they have a lower standard of living, but this is compared to our excesses. In many countries the wages are more than enough to maintain food, shelter and basic needs.

Putting a Stop to Slave Labor (Cover Story) Bryan Welch

This article is written by a man with first-hand experience of illegal immigration from the American side.
This was written by a guy with a laptop and an opinion.

Hey - I have a lot of first-hand experience with immigrants! Why don't I write an op-ed piece!

First of all, he's wrong about the roof thing. I've re-shingled my own houses several times over the last 25 years. No illegals working for $2 per hour. Sorry.

Second, the problem really DOESN'T lie with the United States - other than that our standard of living, our freedoms, and our access to jobs is so far superior to that in other countries that the number of immigrants to the United States each year is MORE than immigrants to all other countries in the world COMBINED.

Third, the REAL problem, and the REAL solution lies in the hell-hole countries these people are coming from! If Mexico was not such a corrupt, poverty-ridden crap-box, the Mexicans would want to stay home! And they would! I lived in Minnesota for many years. Those Mexicans didn't want to go up there are freeze their asses off, just for the fun of it! They would tolerate the frozen tundra BECAUSE THERE WERE JOBS WITH GOOD WAGES. And there were NO JOBS and NO WAGES in Mexico.

The key is not figuring out ways of keeping them out. The key is for counties - like Mexico - to come into the 21st Century!

No, this is wrong.

The PROBLEM is that the United States is SO wealthy and has SO MANY JOBS, that people from these little crap-box countries are willing to risk life and limb JUST TO GET HERE.

You're proposing putting a band-aid on a gaping wound. That's not going to work.

I think that everyone sees it, Tris.

Now would be a good time to drop it and talk about the subject at hand.

Yes, lets keep this on subject. I'm gonna start closing threads that wander too far from the topic or that turn into whining sessions.

Oh really? Here's a quote from his rant...
Quote:
Chances are that the roof on your home or the food on your table or the tiles on your floor were put there by undocumented workers.
Furthermore, the guy lives by Lawrence, Kansas - you know, the hotbed of illegal immigration into the United States?

But the point is still the same. If there were any jobs in Mexico, the Mexicans would stay there.

We will NOT keep "illegals" out of the United States UNTIL there is some reason for them to stay home. Until that happens, EVERYTHING is irrelevant!
