It's less of a guess now than it used to be.

The law needs to be revised.

I'm still not sure where I stand on this issue.

I happen to believe that whatever you do to others, the same should be done to you. . . this obviously includes capital punishment.

For example - if you rape someone, you should be raped as well.

Enough of this "Let's be easy on criminals" bs. . .

I think capital punishment is a serious issue that should be taken in such manner. I mean on one hand, of course, every execution risks killing an innocent person. But I also know that a lot of tax payers money goes into keeping jails going. I don't know. I think I'm more for it than against it, if the person is like 100% sure to have committed the crime. Like OJ status.

My view is that if you deprive another person of their right to life, then you forfeit your own right.

On the other hand, "beyond a reasonable doubt" isn't enough when a person's life is at stake. For capital punishment, guilt should be proven "beyond any possibility of doubt whatsoever."

I also think that accusing someone of a capital offence should, if proven false, carry the death penalty. If you're willing to put someone else's life in jeopardy, there should be a consequence to yourself if you're wrong.
THIS IS NOT WAR. THIS IS PEST CONTROL!

Abolitionists will claim that most studies show that the death penalty has no effect on the murder rate at all. But that's only because those studies have been focused on inconsistent executions. Capital punishment, like all other applications, must be used consistently in order to be effective. However, the death penalty hasn't been used consistently in the USA for decades, so abolitionists have been able to establish the delusion that it doesn't deter at all to rationalize their fallacious arguments. But the evidence shows that whenever capital punishment is applied consistently or against a small murder rate it has always been followed by a decrease in murder. I have yet to see an example on how the death penalty has failed to reduce the murder rate under those conditions.
So capital punishment is very capable of deterring murder if we allow it to , but our legal system is so slow and inefficient, criminals are able to stay several steps ahead of us and gain leeway through our lenience. Several reforms must be made in our justice system so the death penalty can cause a positive effect.

Murder is rarely, if ever, committed by someone who thinks they will not get away with. This is why the amount of deterrence is not a valid argument.
There is no way that capitol punishment can be accepted as humane or as anything evolved past the middle ages.
No one...not a single person or a government, has the right to end another persons life.
There are far too many cases of innocent people getting executed and far too much racial inequality on who receives the death penalty.

There is a BIG part of reality that some of you is missing.
Especially, Those of you have never been a victim, or
have had a close one to lose their life for some BS. Do
you think being against capital punishment will get
you into heaven? I am for the Death Penalty.

My Mother is 77 years old, and if something bad should
happen to her making her to lose her life. You that is
against the death penalty. Your opinions would not mean
chit to me. Because if the person got away he or her ass
is mine, and I won't stop looking until I have found that
individual.

This is a perfect example to show that we do not all think
alike. So again...I am all for it.

Well, Bullwinkle, that's about the best post I have read on this thread. It can be a deterrence; but still preserving the our basic rights. The right to counsel, and the right to appeal being the most of the basic. I am for the DP, but against vigilantism.
