There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

I think the death penalty is wrong, so I'm against it for children even when tried as an adult. I'm torn on it for true adults because I know that sometimes they do seem to deserve it.

You know, I can really respect your honesty. You believe it's wrong.

I appreciate the consistency of a Catholic priest, who is a good friend of mine. He is anti-violence and anti-death penalty. He's anti-war, etc. I appreciate the fact that he's consistent in his beliefs and he LIVES true to them. His is a very well thought out position, and he remains true to it.

With this is mind why are there so many Christians that are inconsistant? Pro-life, Pro Death Penalty, pro death penalty for children????? Doesn't make much sense.

If you're just being sarcastic, nevermind.
If you're being honest, let me know. I'll answer.

It's about control and power...

A woman making her own decision about terminating her own pregnancy? With no church input? Sacrilege!

A child on death row? Condemned by a jury of his "peers" in a country that is 75% Christian? God's justice...

<end satire>

But on a non-satirical note, I have had WAYYYY too many conversations with "Christians" on the subject of gay genetics who casually tossed out a comment about how if homosexuality was genetic, and if we could identify it in the womb, then the mother would be able to abort the homosexual in the womb...

In fact, I'm kind of surprised Alias hasn't tried to pull that one already...

I am being serious. If you aren't supposed to judge why have different opinions? It should be all pro life, or all pro death if one is not to judge.

Not sure where you're "you're not supposed to judge" thing is coming from.

Here's my take on it:

Most Christians (probably most people) do NOT view the Death Penalty as even similar to abortion. One takes the life of a pre-born baby, one (at least in theory, if the person is PROVEN guilty) takes the life of a convicted felon - likely a murderer.

One is murder, the other is justice.

As pertaining to war... I don't think there is any one "view" that Christians take. Some are absolute pacificists (Anabaptists & Mennonites), while others tend to take a rather aggressive military stance. Some believe strongly in looking at Augustine's view of "Just War".

If someone is pro life, pro war, and pro death penalty that is a contridiction. It isn't the place of a Christian to judge if someone deserves death or not, so being pro death penalty or pro war is in direct opposition to pro life.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. It is either ok to kill or not. And most Christians are hypocrits because they are:

a) pro life
b) pro death penalty
c) pro killing of animals
d) pro killing in war

It is because religion is a lie at its core, it is not possible to be consistent about much of anything.
