I just don't know if there is a direct correlation between sexual repression and pedophilia (It could be one of many factors.), because if this were true, there would be a lot more pedophiles in the past and it seems that there are more now than before; although that may be due to exposure by the media (To Catch a Predator), and not an actual increase in the number of pedophiles. I have always believed that pedophiles at their very core are rapists. The mindset of a rapist revolves around power and control. Children are easy to manipulate, coerce, and control, much easier than adults. So I think that these rapists are choosing targets that would be more likely to stay silent. I mean if you look at the priest/pedophilia cases, many of the victims(children) don't come forward for decades. This is why I am really tough when it comes to pedophiles, rape is probably one of the worst crimes, if not the worst crime one can commit.

| There certainly needs to be other factors there as well or half the country would be pedophiles I think being sexually abused yourself as a child could be a major factor. But alas, it is all speculation. It would interesting to read an article published by a psychologist who has treated sex offenders and see how their parents treated them. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- "There is no such thing as laziness. | If we made capital punishment the norm for child rapist, wouldn't that make it more likely that they'd rape AND murder the kid then? It would get rid of a witness, and hey, they're getting capital punishment anyway. I think life in jail amongst the general population would be much worse than killing them. Especially seeing as other criminals don't take too kindly to child rapists. | |||||||||||||||||||||

Ok, how about this for sentencing: 1st offense, 20 years, hard labor + rehab 2nd offense and beyond, 25 to life, hard labor + rehab But everyday while in prison, the rapist must wear a sign that says something along the lines of "I raped a six year old girl". When the inmates see this, we have the guards just look the other way and let nature take its course...
