It would appear, that all on the subject of the Death penalty in the UK, use examples of those that suffered excution, a number of years ago.
But with morden DNA technics and other firm evidence, would it not be fair to assume a person found guilty by a jury, should face a term longer them 12 to 15 yrs.
When someone takes a life, first we have to examine, the reasons.
Was it intentional, or accidental. If intentional, I see no other verdict then death by what ever method is used.
If by accident, we have look at the circumstances.
I watched a program on the BBC as to a road in the North of England.
A young man who had been banned 5 times from driving, drove his car at speed trying to out drive a friend of his along this road, until finally he lost control. He crossed the Center reservation, and struck two young girls who were walking along the footpath. He hit them so hard their shoes and socks were found on the footpath. They both died, he was able to climb from the wreck and walk away.
Now two things, he was found guilty of dangerous driving and sentences to 5 yrs in jail, and banned from driving for 5 yrs, but two young innocent girls died
My thoughts are he gave up the right to live and I would have been happy to have helped him on his way.

That, quite simply, is because we abolished the death penalty in 1964.

Sally Clark was convicted less than eight years ago.

Who was Sally Clark?

Personally I am against the death penalty on principle. Not because I don't agree that some people deserve to die for their heinous crimes, but because I don't think we have the right to take a life.

And I don't see how people who are anti-abortion (pro-life in US parlance) can be pro-death penalty!

Either you have a right to life or you don't!

BTW do you look anything that mean dude in your avatar?

Sally Clark was convicted of murdering her two children fourteen months (I think) apart. Turned out they both died of cot death.

I have no moral objection to the death penalty, I just think that life (meaning life) still gives us a chance to right wrongs. Agree with you on the abortion/death penalty thing though, and also the other way around, how can anyone who supports abortion then protest against the death penalty?

The 'mean dude' is His Grace, His Excellency, Commander Sir Samuel Vimes, Duke of Ankh-Morpork. Look it up then read the books. I promise you won't regret it. I suppose there is a slight resemblance but I'm probably carrying an extra two stone.

Nobody has the "right" to take another life, the questions arise when somebody does with malicious forethought take anothers' life, I do not agree with the death penalty but life should mean life, modern crime solving techniques including DNA have proved to be astonishingly accurate and basically indisputable, the death penalty in Britain was abolished because of mistakes, this now seems to be scientifically impossible, the human part could be influenced ie, a person compiling the evidence could perhaps become emotionally involved and crook the results, until human errors are resolved the death penalty should remain a non entity!
Funny how views differ from person to person, no need to ban people you don't agree with though hey!

I would, most probably on balance accept that, but having seen the way the our Home office carries on, it's not going to happen, and even if it did, some one would come along and 'move the Goal posts' again.

However there are crimes which should mean a death penalty, and when some one is caught, with a smoking gun in hand, I see no reason to allow them to continue living, when they have taken some other persons life.
Do unto others, as you wish to be done unto yourself.
