You know, until approved funding, Stem Research was not funded by the government. Hmmm. So theses decades of research supporters of the funding claim to have borne fruit were all what??? PRIVATELY FUNDED!!!

There is nothing new with placing restrictions on what researchers can do to receive federal funding. Instead of sitting around and complaining why don't scientists use their energies to find new methods of doing the research.

The are embryonic stem cell lines available for research today. There are also other avenues of approach for the research including stem cells from placenta and bone marrow, not to mention cord blood samples. All of which do not create life simply to destroy it.

I have no problem with allowing embryos created through fertility clinics being used after the couples have had their children and determined they no longer wish to attempt any further artificial insemination procedures. This would give another series of cells available for study. However, this bill seeks to fund the deliberate creating of an embryo only to use it for scientific study. I have problems with the ethics of this move. It is one thing when we do this to animals, yet quite another when we are doing it to human life. Where and when does it stop??? Here comes that slippery question regarding quality of life.

Which is a whole other discussion.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

This means other countries like Singapore will take the lead in this area of study and leave the US way behind. Way to go USA.

Again, until 2001 Stem Cell Research was funded privately, I did not see Singapore taking the lead did you. How easy it is to make a sarcastic remark when ignoring the facts.

But sgtdmski,

It could have helped the republican's poster child!

Former US First Lady Nancy Reagan has urged the Bush administration to support embryonic stem cell research.

Mrs Reagan said too much time had been wasted already discussing the issue.

She is said to believe the research could lead to a cure for Alzheimer's disease, which has afflicted her husband, Ronald Reagan.

The Bush administration has blocked public funding of this type of research because of his party's ethical reservations about embryo research.

Stop the madness before us it stops!

The remark was far from sarcastic, but reflects the reality of the research being performed in the field of stem cell research. The US federal government has always taken a key role in funding basic research. However, the US federal government has put politics ahead of the needs of its citizens with this ban. So don't be suprised when other countries like Singapore take the lead.

Singapore Acts as Haven for Stem Cell Research

What the hell?
One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all.
