That's where I disagree..

I am all for healthcare for all, but my means where it can be made affordable. Socialized healthcare much like Europe is not the answer.

The US spends a much higher percentage of its GDP on healthcare (around 15%) than any other western economy.

Even so 43m Americans have no insurance, and huge corporations like GM, Ford, United Airlines etc are crippled by health insurance overheads.

There has to be a better way.

How would you propose providing health care for all and making it affordable?

It's also the right way! Sure, as Gary said in the Sicko thread, that people do have some gripes about their government-provided health care, nothing is perfect, but at least they get the care they need. I'd rather complain about filling out a few forms, than go without any care whatsoever.

BTW, why is taxpayer-funded universal health care a socialist program according to some on the right, yet other certain tax-funded social programs (Police, schools, fire dept.) are perfectly fine in their eyes? (They don't seem to be up in arms about those.) I propose that change the term "public schools", to "Socialized Schools", we ought to be a little more accurate about these things right?

$15,000? A bandage on a deep wound at best. I'm doubtful that an entire family could suffice on 15k for health insurance for very long. And he's also suggesting replacing coverage provided by employers with his own plan? WTF?

I guess we don't need the fire dept., the police, public schools, or public water and sewage systems either according to Mr. Giuliani. Those are all taxpayer-funded and they're all basically government-provided. It's essentially the government (County, city, state, or otherwise.) putting criminals behind bars, putting out the fires, teaching our children, and keeping our tap water usable.

It's not like any of those programs contribute to society anyway right? lol (more sarcasm!)

I'm afraid the Democrats don't even have such a universal plan. Romney's complaint might be stretched to work if what he said about the Democrats' plans was true. The only Democrat advocating a truly national, non-profit, universal system (anything even resembling "socialized health care") is Dennis Kucinich. Everyone else's plan is doomed to failure, and once Clinton's or Obama's plan fails, the Republican propaganda machine will hold it up and make an example out of the 'failures of socialized medicine'. Even though it would never be socialism in the first place, but that won't matter to a primarily ignorant voting population.

It seems like what the British developed soon after WWII (NHS) is still many years ahead of American politics.
