Wow if you raise wages, you raise the price. Who would have ever thought that would happen. Those of us living in reality definitely, unfortunately, when was the last time a Congressman had to run to the store to buy any of those.
Tsk, Tsk, Tsk, the lies continue. People see more money in their checks and forget about the higher prices they have to pay because they are getting theirs.
BTW, when was the last time a server received the full minimum wage??? In most states it was $2.13 - $2.35 per hour plus tips.

The measly 70 cents increase in minimum wage to an unlivable $5.85 an hour is so insubstantial that it would both not bring up any significant raise in standard of living for minimum wage earners, as well as not effectively bring up prices at all.
Here in Ohio, the minimum wage was adjusted more realistically with inflation to a $6.85 (as well as indexed to future inflation), but even at that rate I saw no effective increase in prices, and that rate is still poverty level, especially for people needing to support families. It's becoming increasingly evident that we need to make living wages in the United States. It would be in more proportion with each area's cost of living, but on average I would probably say around 9 to 10 dollars an hour rather than half that, as the Democrats are hailing as so wonderful. | Good, point, sgt. I'm not too sure how exactly a waitress is really effected by a minimum wage increase (at least one so insubstantial). Such a job is competitive, and most of their money being earned is through tips, etc. I know a busser (gets less than a waiter's share) who probably brings home on average 10-12 dollars an hour, even though his official wage is like 2-3 dollars and hour.

| Well, what do you expect from a right wing party like the Democrats? They are just as right wing as the republicans and bought and paid for by big business. Big business has no interest in making a just and decent society.

Big business has no interest in making a just and decent society. | You are right, big business has no interest in making a just and decent society, there interest lies in making a profit. This has been a well documented fact ever since Adam Smith uttered those infamous words: Quote: |
It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our necessities but of their own advantages.
| Why should this be shocking or surprising to anyone. What is shocking and surprising to me is why do so many people who have families need to survive off of minimum wage jobs??? What are they doing wrong, what has caused them to be in the circumstance they are in? Did the practice unsafe sex and have children before they were ready to pay for them? Did they drop out of school before getting a diploma that has now left them in the dead end world they lead? What led to the life they are living?
At some point government must realize that you cannot help everyone no matter how hard you try. Unfortunately there are some that will continue to make one bad choice after another and lead their life into disaster. It is through charity and compassion of those who do work, that we offer them a hand out or seek to help them in their plight. As long as government compels us to pay for them, you will have people that resent them.....until finally government cuts them from the coffers, or those of us who work see that it is easier to do nothing and be taken care of by others. If the latter is the case, how long before you have no one working??
